11. Interesting.
I wonder what accounts for those little shifts up/down/east/west. I noticed a slight bias toward spiritualism in the questions, I thought, such that I could have answered "neither."

It turns out the quiz defaults to dead center (if you answer no questions).

Now, I've got to research what it means. :eyes: That's not to say a five minute quiz is accurate, either.

on edit: A few of the questions were hard because I've never been able to give an absolute yes or no.

It is bullshit. For example, I believe in evolution as the mechanism of creation ... but there is no way of expressing that belief by answering that quiz.

BTW ... anyone here ever read the writings of the Priest/Anthropologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin? Fascinating stuff.

Pretty close to accurate.

On edit: Though I would have preferred a third answer to a lot of those questions...and, considering that I think of myself as a pantheist humanist, meaning that WE must supply the answer to many of these questions.

20. Do you think this was set up by a Scientologist?
After being designated a Humanist, I fiddled around with the responses a bit to get designated as a Scientologist.None of the other descriptions posted here for equally worthy sets of beliefs or opinions seems to glow as much. Sounds like a marketing campaign:

"Your ideals mostly resemble those of the Scientology faith. You strive to find the truth in all matters, but you also have a lot of faith in people and things. You are very logical, smart and charismatic and you value the truth above all else!"

Also, I don't think I'd ever think to include Scientology as a possible result in a quiz since they have so few followers compared to all the other categories. Not to mention that relative to their actual beliefs (as opposed to the Galactic stories & rumors abt Tom Cruise)I know very little abt them.

35. Don't know, but it's b.s.
Many of the questions are strangely worded and I couldn't accurately answer yes or no to them. Also, the chart is b.s., it perpetuates the myth of science vs. spiritual and faith vs. reason. As for me, it claims that I'm Taoist. I do like Taoism, but I'm much more eclectic than that.

It's interesting that there are so many atheists hanging out in a religion/theology forum.

26. This quiz isn't the best I've seen on the subject
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 10:36 AM by Heaven and Earth
The first question on evolution is not an either/or question. The answer could easily be both created and evolved, and I would answer that way if given the chance.

Anyway, it got me wrong, mostly because i didn't answer the questions I felt weren't be asked the right way:

I have faith - in my son's love never ending, in the sun still rising tomorrow.

I just don't believe in unproven gods, which is why I "value objective proof over intuition or subjective thoughts."

I disagree with their conclusion; I've found an organized church that fits me perfectly - it is a universalist church that believes in the honoring of all paths - Religious Science.

So, to me, the quiz isn't designed very well, and reflects pretty dogmatic beliefs about attendees of organized churches/temples/mosques.

37. I felt that the quiz was somewhat simplistic
both in its questions, and in its conclusions. It had me down as an atheist.

Your ideals mostly resemble those of an Atheist. You have very little faith and you are very focused on intellectual endeavors. You value objective proof over intuition or subjective thoughts. You enjoy talking about ideas and tend to have a lot of in depth conversations with people.

40% scientific.
70% reason-oriented.

For the record, I don't regard myself as an atheist, though I don't subscribe to any notion of divinity that resembles anything found in most religious traditions. I am not a very spiritually oriented person, but I do have some level of spirituality which I felt the questions were too crude and simplistic to be able to effectively measure. I found too many questions there to which I didn't feel comfortable answering either way, and would have appreciated being given 3 instead of 2 choices and a little more nuance.

It would be interesting to take a similar quiz that was put together with a bit more nuance.

And yeah, what is that with including Scientology but not including Islam? Or do they just assume that Islam is encompassed within Judaism/Christianity?

Overly simplistic.
