Oh Fish! Man refuses to sell lucky pet
Bangalore-based owner turns down Rs 3 lakh offer for fish which has the word Allah on its body
A fitness centre owner in Chamrajpet area spent 11 days searching for his pet fish, and later refused a Rs 2.8-lakh offer from a politician to part with it. Umesh Gowda, 25, believes his floran fish is blessed with divine powers and brought him good luck.
The design on the fish’s body resembles the word Allah in Arabic, Gowda was told by his friends. However, when he bought this fish about two years ago for Rs 3,000 there were no such marks on his body, he said.
On April 11, Gowda found the fish missing from the aquarium in his fitness centre. He promptly shut the centre, filed a police complaint and began visiting shops dealing in aquarium fish in Bangalore. On April 22, he got a tip-off that a fish in a shop in Shrinagar area was priced at Rs 2.5 lakh.

A few months ago, some members of the Muslim community offered him Rs 3 lakh for the fish, he said. “It’s my best friend. I will earn billions as long as I have my best friend with me,” he said.
