1. Beautiful pictures. Did you intend to put this in the R/T Forum?

2. It's all about the Volcano God, you see...
Someone forgot the virgin sacrifice, and this is what happens. All bow down to the Volcano God!

4. You mean Abrahamic god, right?

Exodus 13:21-22
21And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

Exodus 14:24
And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians

Exodus 19:16-18
16And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 17And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

Fire, smoke rising from the mountain, earthquakes, and lightning. All worship the Abrahamic volcano god.

6. Brilliant. God is a volcano. Who knew? I guess all those
virgin sacrificers knew what they were doing, eh?

3. Science can explain every bit of it.
Well, except for the part about why we find things like that so strikingly beautiful.

5. That's no volcano, that's God!
Exodus describes God as appearing on Mt. Sinai as smoke, fire, lightning, and earthquakes. I wonder if someone walked up to the plume of the volcano in Iceland, they'd hear a voice telling them all about which animals to sacrifice, how do to it, and how often.

10. probably saw Santori blow and tried to make sense of it. they were
fleeing and used the light at night and the smoke during the day as a travel guide. probably felt like divine intervention at the time.

ETA: A whole lot more sense than an omnipotent creator deity that cares about the minutia of our lives.

12. I think a lot of good spiritual thinking and comfort is buried under
the ideas of ancient people that are being taken literally to all our regret.

16. cf. "Act of God" (Graham Phillips)
He fleshes out this hypothesis pretty well (IMO) so it's certainly
worth borrowing from the library even if you aren't in a position
to buy it outright.

9. I drove though Redoubt's ash storm to Homer (80 miles) and the
static electricity arcs lightning all around. it was so strange. a dull ashfall like snow and arcing lightning across the hood of my car. I remember seeing Redoubt blow a huge plume and by the time I got to the library for refuge running all the way from the drug store, a city block, I was getting fall out. It had already tipped over and landed on us. Midnight at noon. I hate volcanic eruptions. These are awesome pictures by the way.

13. Hmm I thought I deleted this out of the R/T
forum by clicking "hide tread". Anyone know how to actually delete it when I do that again?
I posted this right after in the science forum.

14. Alert on it and ask the mods to delete it.
They tend to delete posts when the author requests it.
