Praise The LORD......Scores of aid workers among dead in Haiti
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 11:12 PM by KansasVoter
<sarcasm>

For all the religious nuts claiming that GOD did this to bring people together I say bullshit! The aid workers were killed also! Thanks GOD for great use of your powers!

MIAMI - Haiti's limitless poverty and hardship have long drawn aid groups and charities from across the world. Now the same people who tried to do good before the earthquake find themselves trapped in the rubble, out of touch with their loved ones and struggling to carry on their missions.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Haiti was killed. Thirty six United Nations workers were killed; scores more are missing or trapped in their collapsed headquarters. Missionaries, students, doctors and others are missing or out of contact.

"This earthquake is really too much," said the Rev. Duken Augustin, a Roman Catholic priest said in an e-mail from his home in Cap Haitien, where he works for the U.S.-based Food For The Poor charity. "No (break). No chance. We will have to deal with new needs, new sufferings, new situation of hunger, new despair, new devastation."

Was it really necessary to make a personal attack with your nasty comment? My mother had a saying- "it takes one to know one."

6. I think I understand what you are saying--
many people try to be prematurely optimistic and talk about what good might come out of a tragedy--how things will end up for the best. It's like they want to deny the seriousness of it all. Or they want to attribute the event to a higher being, as if there was a plan for it. But the situation in Haiti has been more than tragic--they've experienced political upheaval, poverty, famine, and over the last couple years, devestating hurricanes. This catastrophe on top of it all, and the deaths of well-meaning people only intending to help, add to the senseless cruelty of the circumstances.

It's very bitter humor, and I think in light of comments made by professional full-time asshats like Robertson and Limbaugh, I can appreciate it--both consider the Haitians responsible for their own suffering, the former because of sin, the latter because of communism. But the reality is that so many things do go wrong at times that the senselessness of it all just spits in the faces of the optimistic and tarnishes the silver linings people want to look for.

I've also seen the "Where was God" types of comments--believe me, as an atheist, I just don't ask that anymore when terrible things happen. It doesn't reinforce any sense on my part that we're alone, here, it just makes me want to put more "faith", if we can call it that, in our human efforts to sort things out.

He was rescued after 55 hours trapped inside the ruins of the Hotel Montana, along with several of his colleagues. :D

8. I don't think there's anybody here who thinks that
the earthquake in Haiti was the work of some vengeful deity.

You might just have this place confused with another political forum where such an opinion might well be entertained.

There is nothing remotely sarcastic in that header.

"The aid worker's were killed also! Thanks God for great use of your powers!"

That would be twice exclaiming your intent.

If you hate religious people that much, just say so.

Rush Limpballs is the world's second biggest asshat. And guess what he got you to do today?

10. A new low
for you. Despicable. What could be worse than what Rush Limbaugh said? Uh, what you said is definitely worse. Dancing on the graves of humanitarian aid workers who died while helping the impoverished people of Haiti. Evil, that's what that is. Pure evil. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself.

11. The OP was lame, but I think it's more evil to anticipate the suffering of millions...
who don't believe in your god correctly, and whom you believe will be sent to hell. After all, according to your narrow-minded theology, LOTS of those aid workers are burning in your hell right now. God's will be done, indeed.

12. Can't we all just get along?
trotsky, you and I may have our theological disagreements, but is this really the time for you to be picking a fight with me - calling me "evil" for merely believing the Word of God?

I would think we could all agree that aid workers in Haiti are doing good, and that rejoicing in their deaths is very twisted. Some people have such a vicious hatred of God that they are blinded by their hate, and the OP is a perfect example of that.

Then for you to say that I am worse merely because I am a Bible-believing Christian is uncalled for.

How about let's focus on what we can agree on - support for the people of Haiti and the aid workers trying to help them.

- Zeb

15. Anyone who believes in a hell where people will suffer forever...
is a sick twisted fuck in my mind. And with your own words, you are outright stating that every Christian who doesn't agree with you isn't a "bible-believing Christian."

In response to my plea for unity and focus on areas in which we have common ground, you call me a "sick twisted fuck." Nice. Enjoy the bile as it consumes you from the inside.

19. No common ground?
Really? I just said that I think we can all agree that what humanitarian aid workers in Haiti are doing is good, and that rejoicing in their deaths is wrong. You and I cannot agree on that? Has your hatred grown so much that it has totally destroyed your moral compass?

And I already knew that your hatred is not directed at me. It is directed at Someone else.

14. Did you even read past the title of the OP?
The OPer isn't grave-dancing. In fact, the OPer is obviously pissed at the needless death and suffering that is happening right now in Haiti, and seems to me to be making the simple point that anyone who claims that God did this on purpose as part of some master plan is a sick, twisted individual.

Seems simple enough to me.

13. So long as we posit god as a moral agent,
a world without a god just makes more sense in light of these kinds of tragedies.

21. For fuck's sake, are people completely devoid of any sense of sarcasm?
First: the original post is dumb. I'm not endorsing it.

However: I did not need the sarcasm tag to read the sarcasm in the post. I know that sarcasm is difficult to detect in the written word, but it takes a massive deficit in reading comprehension to think this was a serious post. I don't think it's funny, but I'm baffled that anyone is reading it literally.
