" "It is an insult to all San Franciscans when a foreign country, like the Vatican, meddles with and attempts to negatively influence this great City's existing and established customs and traditions such as the right of same-sex couples to adopt and care for children in need," the 2006 resolution states."
I have been saying that the Vatican's directions to citizens, its subordinates (employees), and politicians in the US are acts of a foreign government for years- and all I get is "smile and nod". Good for the city of SF on this one.
And good for the court:
" "f consistency with religious beliefs is not endorsement of religion, inconsistency is not hostility to it," Paez wrote. "
Note that this is not the first time that a religion, even a domestic one, has tried to make the case that a government was showing disapproval of a religion by disapproving of a position taken by that religion.
From Wiki:
"The Umatilla argued that their creation myths say that their people have been present on their historical territory since the dawn of time, so a government holding that Kennewick Man is not Native American is tantamount to the government's rejection of their religious beliefs."
