24. Not at all
Merely more of us who are capable of significantly affecting others are fucking monsters than those who are not. 50 powerless saints cannot counterbalance one powerful monster.

5. If gawd was real as was described in the new testament of the bible...
suffering wouldn't have the business it has today.

Religion and complacency go hand in hand. Bible thumpers expect gawd to take come on down and strike down all the bad in the world..aka armageddon.

While they wait, they shake their bibles at sinners and ignore the suffering so they can do some condemning.

10. Depends on whose God you are talking about.
I was raised a Catholic and taught that being poor was a virtue and brought me closer to God. So evidently the Catholic God loves the poor as long as you remain poor. Other Gods though seem to reward those who work hard with material riches. So go figure.

12. Is there a God, does God have compassion at all?
Start with those questions. I don't think compassion comes into it at all.

16. Yes, but . . .
Many of God's most public and vocal alleged proponents don't appear to have any compassion for the poor. It's a curious phenomenon that a person's public pronouncements of piety seem to be in inverse proportion to his or her actual carrying out of that piety. I'm not sure if God is to blame for that, though.

17. If he/she exists, god must love the poor....
... cuz he/she makes so many of them.

Must love the little kids with lukemia, too. Keeps 'em alive for a loooong time while they suffer.

Strange ways to show love, this god of yours...

23. In the orig. post the question was "does God have compassion for the poor?"
In the Christian big scheme it appears as though poor people are necessary and that pretending that you know what this god wants and/or how to assist this god in whatever he's up to seems unlikely to me. The way I got the N.T. is, god is the decider. Bush is a Christian and claims to be the decider. Can a person be both?

20. When you make up a myth you can make it have compassion
or contempt for anyone you want. The question should read: "Does YOUR god have compassion for the poor."

I don't have a god, so my answer is NO.

25. the teachings of Jesus on the poor
Compassion for the poor is the central teaching of Jesus, though wealthy Christians often avoid this by concentrating more on the Old Testament or selective writings of Paul on morality instead of Jesus. "The meek will inherit the earth." "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."

26. How much compassion does anyone here
for the poor? Take all the money you make, subtract ALL the money you don't have to have to live. How much of that do you give to the poor?

27. What is the point of your question? Are you practicing rhetoric?
Are you asking how a person chooses which religion to follow? Are you seeking some mystical insight?

By asking What is the point of your question?, I mean: What would you expect from an answer to the question?
