Man “angry at God” drives minivan into church sanctuary
Sacramento, Feb 21, 2008 / 02:04 am (CNA).- A man who said he was angry at God drove a minivan through a Catholic church in Rancho Cordova, California late on Saturday night, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Harold David Zequeda, 36, drove a silver Ford Windstar through St. John Vianney Church.

Witnesses said the driver pulled onto the church’s front lawn and floored the gas pedal.

One witness said the driver had dropped a photograph of several young children and told police he was angry at God.

Zequeda is charged with vandalizing a house of worship, a felony, and driving with a suspended license. He is being held on $1 million bail.

6. Yes, it's the same thing, isn't it?
Recklessly endangering lives, and causing criminal damage, is just like reporting on priests who break the law, on a site which has an "ignore" feature. :sarcasm:

15. Oh, absolutely.
Pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the Moral Majority should be a felony - punishable by death.

(and it probably will be if our guy Huckabee gets installed. )

I would never do something that stupid.

That's why I'm building a giant tower in my backyard, so I can shoot god with arrows.

Geesh!

Seriously, though. My problem isn't with god, but with his fan culb.

14. Yes, I am aware that vandalism is illegal.
It just seems like a bit of a stretch to make something like spraypainting a church a felony.

16. I'm going to disagree with you there
I believe its probably a felony because of how often it happens with Synogogues. They get spray painted with swastika's and KKK symbols quite a bit. Considered a version of a hate crime. Since it would be hypocritical to only apply this law to Synogogues, I can see how this can cover Church vandalism too. I might be an atheist, but I think spray painting houses of worship is deliberately offensive and I think a felony charge is appropriate.

17. Plus, religions have a history of not always getting along together very well.
And don't forget, The KKK hates Catholics at least as much as they hate Jews and Black People.

20. I'm thinking about a couple of rebellious kids...
just trying to piss people off by spray-painting "God sucks" on a church or something like that. I agree with you that when it approaches the level of a hate crime, more severe punishments are probably in order - but when it's done by statute there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of discretion.

Why could not he just put a sign in his yard that said, "God Sucks"?
