Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans
I just discovered while playing jango.com that

Lou Reed

has a song called

SATELLITE OF LOVE

Just some more cultural trivia I now I added to my memory banks.

Enjoy!

2. I'm still trying to figure out why MST3K reruns aren't shown on any of my 500+ channels
It doesn't make any sense.

7. I have lots downloaded and I own some select DVD's..
but still, it should be shown somewhere on satellite TV. It's a no-brainer IMO, there is plenty of excess bandwidth currently being used to show nothing but crap.

Best Brains should purchase their own channel. ;)

9. Type "mst3k torrent" into google..
Or go directly here:
http://mst3k.booyaka.com/bittorrent_guide.shtml

It's been awhile since I've downloaded torrents, so I'm not sure if they're still seeded.

:hi:

But it requires that ancient technology known as "Usenet."

You'll need (a) a Premium Usenet Provider with good (long) retention and (b) a good newsreader, such as Newsleecher. I recommend Newsleecher because it has a very fast and powerful search feature.

A few months ago, some nice person uploaded EVERY known episode of MST3K, plus a "Shorts" disk with all the short subjects. Even nicer, these are already in standard DVD format with menus. IIRC, it ran to 27 disks @ 4.5 Gb each, with 5 or 6 episodes on each desk.

As you probably know, the first 3 episodes on the local Minnesota TV station are "lost." So this collection starts with K4, meaning the 4th show broadcast locally. Then it goes to the SciFi Channel/Comedy Central years, in the sequence the shows were originally aired.

Quality is often pretty bad. Many of the shows seem to have been originally recorded on VHS in LP or SLP mode. A small price to pay to see "The Magic Sword" or "Giant Gila Monster" at your leisure, IMO.

Of course, all this advice is strictly theoretical and I would never encourage illegal downloading...

10. And if they're going to show crap...
It may as well be heckled crap. There are ones that, for the sake of what little sanity is left in the world, they shouldn't show. Ones too painful to watch even as the MST3K version... Like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. (I've heard that Manos is arguably worse but I haven't had the "pleasure" of watching that one.)

13. From what I recall (fuzzy) the new Comedy Central guys sacked the show...

Bad, bad, bad move. The show was never the same once Sc-Fi Channel picked em up ... still watched it faithfully, of course, and even grew to like Brain Guy (new Crow). No easy task as he had big shoes to fill following Trace's departure

11. We have bookcases full of VHS tapes from the early 90s - on of MST3K
Although I've yet to attempt making any transition to DVD ...christ, what a pain that would be, and there's no way the vast majority of those episodes are even available on DVD. Bad enough I sold off some of my record collection in the mid 90s, switched to cds (which I said I'd never do) and then of course, yrs later had to go back and re-locate copies of those obscure metal LPs

Anyhow...yes, love MST3K, and it's really the one and only TV show that I followed that closely. I still watch the tapes for late night viewing ;)
