ABC has ordered a pilot for V,
Pilot Season: 'V' and 'Lost in the '80s' a go

ABC has ordered a pilot for V, an update on NBC's 1983 sci fi miniseries. Considering the flurry of emails the news elicited from EW's TV department -- and the fact that 40 million people tuned in for V the first time -- I'm going to give this a TAG (Totally Arbitrary Grade) of A-. (The minus is because this is the network that canceled Invasion.) The script, written by Scott Peters (The 4400), centers on a female Homeland Security agent, according to The Hollywood Reporter. To relive the joy that was V -- from the advertising (ABC must be salivating), to the Independence Day-inspiring imagery of alien spacecraft hovering over our cities, to the swallowing of a guinea pig whole -- read Kristen Baldwin's fascinating 1999 look back.

3. ABC screwed the original creator. Not sure I like the new angle.

The plans for a remake of the 80s sci fi series, "V", were announced last October, but is has taken ABC a few months to decide just how to put a modern spin on the show. Their answer, turn the show into a family themed drama.

Scott Peters (The 4400) will helm this updated version of the alien invasion franchise, which will revolve around a female Homeland Security officer and the issues that arise inside her family when the "Visitors" arrive with their message of peace and friendship.

Reportedly the son of the agent will be drawn into fake ploys put into place by the lizard-like aliens, which will cause conflicts with his mother.

Back in October when the news of a new "V" series first was released, the creator of the original series, Kenneth Johnson, voiced his displeasure that ABC was going forward with the project without him. According to Johnson, he had pitched the idea for a series entitled, "V: The Second Generation", to ABC and they had told him, "No Thanks."

It was a short time later that plans for this new "V" series were announced.

5. That's a Shame
I thought the original series was intense. Can't imagine this would be.

4. Is this based off the same graphic novel as 'V for Vendetta'?
If so, sign me up! Although, I'm pretty pissed at ABC at the moment for canceling both Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies.

8. Surprised it's not NBC, which sucked the life out of it in the first place.
Interesting the except covers silly references to "Independence Day" and shock jock revelation that the hot chick ate a gerbil rather than what the story was actually ABOUT.

Sensationalism...

I thought Kenneth Johnson, who created and wrote the first miniseries, had written a revival script or book a few years back? Is that being adapted or discarded?

I don't care much for remakes, a continuation from the original would be better -- there were plenty of open endings and ways to circumvent the crap 19 episode tv series...
