Just saw The Dark Knight....Heath Ledger....wow...
Before seeing this film I was thinking much of the praise was probably due to the sympathy angle. Was I wrong. Now I know why so many people were not only praising his acting, but why so many were very sad at the loss of his potential.

After seeing Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain, I knew he was good, but The Dark Knight shows he was great. And to think of it, his face is hidden by paint.

To me, one thing American acting so often skimps on is the entire language of both the body and mouth. Ledger showed it all in this flick and deserves every one of these accolades.

To see a master actor, watch his acting. His participation is worth the movie alone.

3. What a way to go
Heath was absolutely amazing as The Joker--much better than Jack in my opinion. He went above and beyond just acting. He BECAME the Joker. Sadly, I think that might have been a contributing factor in his death. He was a true artist.

I still miss him. But what a way to go.

That Oscar is his come Feb. 22nd.

4. When you were watching him....
did it sort of disturb you, too?

Like you suggested, I think he delved so deeply into this role that it did have some sort of impact on him. I can't put my finger on it, but there was something there.

And what I find so fascinating in it is that he did this under the cover of paint. Yes, his make up was very good, but to me, he acted through it and it makes me wonder what it would have looked like if he had not had it on. What I mean is, I think his acting would have been even more amazing without the make up.

5. I think I know what you mean

Heath WAS the Joker, and even if he hadn't died, he still would be the Joker. Jack didn't even play the Joker like Heath did.As great as he is, Jack is a caricatiure. I've never seen an actor so completely BE that role in any movie. Even though I was looking for it, it still took my breath away. THAT is an actor. Heath Ledger rocked it. I hope he wins an Oscar, and I hope everyone realizes thzt it's not because he died. It's because he was a fantastically gifted actor.

7. yup
What I want to happen is for Heath to win the Oscar and Michelle Williams to accept it on his behalf. Sadly, though, I don't think that will happen

10. Yeah Jack's personality carries him.
He's a great actor too, but like you said, Heath is the Joker.

6. He was good. As far as I watched that movie. I just don't like fantasy that much. Don't know
why I rented Dark Knight except that everyone here was raving about it.

8. Glad it's accessible to the "non-geek" crowd.
There have been some exceptional fictional characters created in comics over the years, our own modern myths really, and it's good to see some of them getting the creative respect on the big screen, we fans think they deserve. For hardcore Batman lovers, the "Batman Begins/The Dark Knight" reinvention has been a very nice gift indeed.

11. Me neither.
I was sorry I went to see it. I thought it would be exactly what it was: Pointless, nihilistic and violent. No real reason for me to see it.

Ledger's performance was the only redeeming thing in it. He was very methodical, and talked deliberately in complete sentences, just like a compulsive killer might. Very scary.

Now if there had been some point to all this violence and pathological stuff, it might have been worth something.

12. Agreed.
One thing that bugged me, and it is a small thing, was when Joker made his face the reason for his behavior. As a mom of a son who resembles Quasimodo, and whose son has ben called 'freak' and 'monster=boy'' by his peers, I so wanted to tell Joker to, "GET OVER IT!" My son is now 25 and is well adjusted. Yes, I know this is just a piece of fiction, and Joker was just BSing the other character in the movie but it still irked me. (Thanks for letting me vent. Rant now off.)

14. Oh yeah! The "Dark Knight" had me on the edge!
Heath Ledger was into that role both physically and mentally. It definitely is one of the great villain portrayals in movie history.

15. I thought Heath was good but I still think that he was robbed
when he did not get the best actor award for Brokeback Mountain. It was also a great movie and, personally, I didn't think Dark Knight was all that good.

16. He's the only reason I watched that movie.
I normally don't like superhero films, but I had to see it because of Heath. He was absolutely brilliant. I stayed through the credits to see the dedication, and I cried when I saw it.

What a way to go, indeed.

17. He Was Great In It But, You Know
I really hope Terry Gilliam's movie that's coming out is brilliant, and I hope HL is brilliant in it.

If I were an actor, I'd really hate for a character like the Joker to be my final legacy.
