I watched "Muriel's Wedding" over the weekend
and wonder why the critics said that "it is hilarious!". I thought it was sad.

4. You'll have to see it. But she is a young girl who
wants to get married in the worst way and does anything to do so, just about. She is also trying desperately to fit in with the beautiful, cool people and they just make fun of her. Even her family makes fun of her and ridicules her.

2. I agree.
Too many ABBA tunes for it to be anything but tragic!

No, I did not like the movie at all.

9. I didn't say I didn't enjoy it. But I was
expecting a funny movie. That it was not but it is quite good. Didnt the actress who played Wanda act in 6 Feet Under on TV?

12. It's very similar to Little Miss Sunshine i think
Which is interesting considering Toni Collette is in both films.

13. Poor marketing
My friend and I saw it at the theater--we couldn't wait to see such a funny movie...needless to say, we came out of there completely puzzled. After getting over our :wtf: reaction, we both realized we loved it.

Since then I've watched it a million times on cable; it's become one of my all-time favorite movies. Wait a bit and watch it again. Now that you don't have the "hilarious!" expectations, you'll be able to judge it on its own merit. Bet you'll love it as well.

(Plus, although it was really sad in parts, it has such a positive ending.)

14. I Thought It Was GReat At the Time
But it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't remember too much of it.

I think there are a few Aussie films that look like 100% rip-roaring comedies in the trailer, but are more thoughtful than they're promoted to be.
