I want to read about the lives of WWII/post-WWII families. Know any?

I want insight into the lives of my parents' parents, as well as to know what life was like for young families in the 40s and 50s.

My maternal grandfather was an army drill sergeant and was stationed in Japan during the occupation. His wife, my grandmother, died of cancer in 1957.

My paternal grandparents ran a farm in Corn, OK. My grandfather got a farmer's diversion (?) from the war. The family moved to So. Cali. in the 50s to work in the airplane factories.

Any ideas about books (fiction okay too if it's well researched) that might shed light on their lives back then? Thanks.

1. I can only give you personal info. I was born in 1932 and remember

a great deal about prewar and postwar.

My dad says he remembers when FDR died. Someone drove pell-mell down the dusty road leading to their farmhouse, and he got out of the car crying. That's how they got the news because they'd been outside working, away from the radio. My dad was 5 years old.

If you feel like sharing anything, you have a captive audience. :)

2. Don't know if you're interested in the region or not.....

But this is a pretty interesting book. It's short and region-specific, but it's a good snapshot of what life was like for folks in that area back in the day.

It's important to hear these stories.
