The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter
I just finished it this morning. It's a 150 page McCain manual of shame. I'm now wishing I bought my copy instead of borrowing it from the library since it's a handy reference guide for between now and November. So I will purchase it.

As I read it the picture of McCain that developed was that he's like an older, angrier version of Karl Rove. When people have crossed him he's gone after their careers.

If anyone is thinking that they won't be able to vote for our Dem nominee should it not be their candidate - read the book. It helped me. John McCain would be a disaster.

Schecter's sense of humor helps the reader endure the awful McCain truths and he footnotes the book very well.

1. Anything in there about McCain's sponsorship of Ahmad Chalabi?
It's a subject of interest to me. See, McCain Had a Key Role in the Iraq WMD Deception http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3207010&mesg_id=3207010

3. No, he doesn't link them directly
But he does point out how Randy Scheunemann brought McCain into the circle of the neocons when McCain wanted to distinguish himself from the isolationist Republican candidates as he was making his bid for the R nomination in 2000. McCain started to consult with Bill Kristol at that time and got close to Lieberman, as well.

I felt that this book provided a lot of data that make me want to do further research. It's a handy guide being so short.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't see your posting of the other day and am saving it to read in the morning. McCain's signature trait seems to be what you point out early on. That being how he shifts the spotlight off himself. He often takes one position and then takes the opposite position on the issue and gets away with it over and over again. I look forward to reading your post and following the links.

Btw, I was confused by Penn's photo in there - horrified, actually. But I read the replies before my head exploded. :D

10. McCain's sponsorship of Chalabi predates the neocons. Goes back to 1991.
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 12:08 PM by leveymg
One of his key backers has been John McCain, who was one of the first patrons of Chalabi’s grand-sounding International Committee for a Free Iraq when it was founded in 1991. McCain played Capitol Hill host at the October 1, 1991 Senate reception for the American launch of the ICFI see. http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/09/chalabi-mccain/; also, see, Rules & Rights in the Middle East, p. 175, ftn 1, http://books.google.com/books?id=v3gIb-oSkXQC&pg=PA174&lpg=PA174&dq=International+Committee+for+a+Free+Iraq+&source=web&ots=zxXhgpj4Yu&sig=OkEuxBTRRYgLT9WZ-xF6ZwPyVvM&hl=en#PPA175,M1

You want a Cliff Notes and spoilers. Okay fine - here's one.

In 2007 Wayne Allard sponsored a bill that would kill the Federal minimum wage and give complete control to the states. States like Kansas where the mandated minimum wage is $2.70 an hour. McCain voted for it, my friends.

Edit: P.S. No reason provided why he does shit like this. He's been a smart ass all his life, evidently. He seems to be another sociopath creep breathing down our collective neck.

8. He's worse than I suspected
Graduated 6th from the bottom in his class at the academy. Party boy. Hot shot. Womanizer.

Sounds so familiar that it gives me chills. It's like there's a mold somewhere that we have to find and break into a million pieces to save the planet. Will Smith will be starring in that block buster.
