Jesse Jackson Latest News as of 11/28/04 at 7:10pm CST

BREAKING NEWS FROM OHIO 7:03pm CST:

Columbus, Ohio

"Jesse Jackson spoke in Ohio at large African-American church. At a press conference before the rally in which the lead attorney openly stated that they discovered the method by which the election in Ohio was rigged for G.W. Bush. As many as 65,000 votes were lifted from the Kerry column to the Bush column. Discovered from looking at a parallel race (Connally). Democratic Supreme Court justice ended up getting more votes than Kerry did. Attorneys are surmising that the only way this could have happened is if votes were lifted from Kerry to Bush. They have the actual vote counts. They consider this prima facia evidence."

This is what I like -- all of this positive energy is very promising. Nothing great is every accomplished easily, and this struggle is very much an example of that. This has got to be the big one. Somethings gotta give people. Maybe the emerging evidence and stuff like this is why Rice's confirmation hearing has been postponed? Speculation...?

3. Yawn.
This will be buried faster than a bone in a fat dogs mouth.

If only we had someone who could take this fight to the national spotlight. Someone who ran for President and promised to make sure that every vote counted. Someone like, oh say... John Kerry.

Where is he anyways?

37. Forget Kerry right now!

He needs to stay right where he is, if he jumped in now it would be a dog fight.

He would take the focus off of the issue and we want it on the issue.

If Kerry made a statement now they would be asking him what Theresa felt, why he went to Viet Nam, what kind of wounds did he receive for his fake medals and more and more bull shit.

If anyone needs to come out swinging it is the American public that needs to stop yawning and wake up and MARCH.

However this story ends, I want to tell my grand children that I did every thing possible to make this world a better place.

What we do here and what we say here is a piece, no matter how small,of the history of the Election of 2004.

the Media probably doesn't want to give him much airtime now.

It is in the Republicans best interest to keep Kerry on ice as long as possible.

So they will have to do Scott Peterson and those wild Pistons tomorrow and don't forget the Ukraine. These are they important issues of the day. >sarcasm.

39. Thanks. I like this quote in the article:
We need to investigate, coordinate, litigate, recount and recuse," he said, referring to the legitimacy of the Ohio vote. Mr. Blackwell cannot be both the owner of the team and the umpire.

Apparently JJ believes there is legal redress available, even though Barney Frank does not seem to agree. (See the thread on Barney Frank in 2004 Election Results forum.)

10. Ya know, waaaay back with the 80 pound paper thing...
remember that? I wrote an Ohio reporter bitching about the Blackwell thing and my subject was, "Will Ohio be the new Florida?" He wrote me back and asked me to verify my personal info, but I never heard anything back from him, and he presumably never used my comments, since I *am* not from Ohio, after all.

I feel very prescient now, and I think of that reporter often. I wonder what he thinks about all this. I may have to write him again.

Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 08:27 PM by Woo
The same thing -- but it was confused toward the end -- First Davis said they KNOW how the election was rigged -- then when asked do they have evidence or are just surmising -- it became more of a surmise... the parallel race for an African American Democratic State Chief Justice garnered thousands of votes over what Kerry got -- just that plain fact should be enough to launch an investigation... makes sense to me when a state race gets many thousands of votes more than the Presidential race... something is fishy.

I'm not sure of evidence bit -- I HOPE they have evidence -- or at least they know how they did it -- but that isn't clear yet -- needs verification...

Not according to the official results.
It's impossible for her to get more votes than Kerry, considering she lost the race.

Basically votes appear to have been shifted from the Kerry column to the Bush column. For more on how all this was figured out and other details see the following article and read about the comparison of the votes for the democratic judge and the vote for Kerry, in about the middle of the article:

22. Unclear
It is unclear from the interview -- when asked he retorted that the attorneys are surmising that votes were shifted. From the interview, it could be taken one of two ways -- either the attorneys have evidence of vote fraud or that they are surmising that votes were switched. He made it sound like they had evidence. But if it is proven that votes were shifted from one column to the other, Bush is going to lose THOUSANDS of votes.

25. "prima facia" = "obvious"
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 08:44 PM by intheflow
I had to look it up, but here's a site from Moritz College of Law I found useful and interesting on the subject:

http://moritzlaw.osu.edu/electionlaw/campaign_finance_f...

Excerpt:
"When allegations of improper coordination arise, evidence of actual coordination is often very difficult to find. The proverbial "smoking gun" would be a memo or an exchange of e-mails describing the coordination, but such documents are often unavailable. In most instances, circumstantial evidence such as statistical correlations of advertising purchases or a cross-over of employees may be all that exists to suggest coordination. Indeed, in this campaign season, the allegations of improper coordination leveled against the Kerry campaign have been based on these kinds of circumstantial evidence. The question, then, is whether such circumstantial evidence is enough to prove improper coordination."

Edited to give a heads up that this article is about campaign finance reform, but I posted it b/c I think the implications re: prima facia are relevant.

21. Clarification on the actual evidence
As noted above, this is still a little unclear. But this is still a big step forward. I think this week's gonna be a good one.

Here's an excerpt:

/snip/

By suspicious, Jackson is referring to the latest analysis of the Nov. 2 vote by a coalition of Ohio voting rights activists. In analyzing the still-unofficial results, the totals reveal that C. Ellen Connally, an African-American Democratic candidate from Cleveland for Ohio Chief Justice, received more than 257,000 votes than Kerry.

In Butler County, for example, Connally had 45,457 more votes than Kerry. The reason these vote counts are suspect is because Connelly, a retired African-American judge, was vastly outspent in her race, and did not have the visibility of the presidential race. Thus for a more obscure Democratic candidate, farther down on the ticket, to get a quarter of a million more votes statewide than Kerry, suggests something happened to suggest there may have been a transfer of Kerry votes to Bush.

This looks like a computer glitch or a computer fix, said Bob Fitrakis, a lawyer, political scientist and Editor of the Columbus Free Press (http://freepres.org ) who has written about election irregularities since Bush was declared the winner. Fitrakis is among the team of lawyers who announced they would soon file an election challenge in the states Supreme Court.

52. Where did they get these numbers?
They do not match official records. Also, it would be impossible for Connaly to get 257,000 more votes than Kerry and lose, considering Kerry is only trailing Bush by 136,000 votes. Official numbers show Kerry got more votes than Connally. Connally did get more votes than Kerry in some republican stronghold, but not by this much.

http://www.kpftx.org/archives/kpftsignal/index.php

Go to SUNDAY MONITOR - NOVEMBER 28

After about 20 minutes of news, you will hear a 20 minute interview with Wayne Madsen.

Then, at the very end of the show, there is a 4 minute interview live from Columbus Ohio regarding Jesse Jackson's appearance today, and the contemplated lawsuit to contest the Ohio election, based on these anomalies. In fact, because it was breaking news, it goes over into the next show -- to access that, go to PAN AFRICAN JOURNAL for a few minutes.

103. So is this enough to get through Repub judges?
Should we pick one of these precincts and do a post election poll or canvass for affidavits of who people voted for or "unofficial" revote by people listed in the poll book?

Pick a couple of churches and have people come in over a weekend and check them off the original list of people who voted?

71. JACKSON'S CONNALLY NUMBERS ARE ALL WRONG!!!
I have posted this many times already...

The information is all at the Secretary of State website: http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos//results/2004/main.htm

I posted my spreadsheet here: http://www.geocities.com/boycott_sinclair/prez-vs-supre ...

Jackson's numbers are completely wrong.

Statewide, Kerry got 640,677 more votes than Connally. There are 11 counties where Connally beat out Kerry. The numbers in those counties only add up to 19,350.

There are also a fairly equivalent number of counties where the Republican Supreme Court candidate Moyer beat out Bush; they add up to 15,509. I don't see conspiracy in these numbers. They look like noise.

If the results are proportional to the Bush/Kerry margins, then there is no argument here. I wish it were true, but I just don't see what everyone else is seeing and I think there's some wishful thinking injected into some of this.

The reason that there are less votes for Connally is because less people vote for Supreme Court Justice than the Presidential race. Those numbers are in general, proportional to those that Kerry received.

I have come out and said before that a person's total posts should not be looked at, but now all these new people are posting. They are dissenters and cannot be trusted. In my mind, almost anyone who suddenly joins in discussion with less than say 150 posts is not someone seeking to reason but a damnable freeper. Ignore them, my friends, because they're no good and will only serve to deflect our attention.

IGNORE THE FREEPERS WHO RECENTLY POSTED! THEY'RE TROLLS, NOTHING MORE.

I am no freeper, I have been following these boards for a month or so now. If you can't handle dissent, then you're like BushCo, trying to take away the right to dissent. I don't think I am a troll, and I'md definately NOT a freeper, but I think there are some serious problems in this methodology because it doesnt take into account the fact that Connally got less than Kerry in percentage terms and that less people are probably voting for SC Justice than president.

I am a newbie too but I can spot trolls easily and so can you. I joined in, I have to start somewhere and I was so glad to be here at DU. Welcome to DU Moses. You don't have to worry about being referred to as a freeper as long as you aren't a troublemaker. For your information, here's the definition of a "freeper" buddy:

1. Freeper

Right-wing political activist. So-called, because it is the nickname of the denizens of the ultra-right wing Web site FreeRepublic.com. Similar to "ditto-head."

Also spelled FReeper

Bill thinks that anyone who opposes President Bush should be thrown in jail. He's a total Freeper.

2. freeper

A vile, right-wing, hatred-spewing wingnut who is a member of the freerepublic.com forum. No dissent is allowed, users who post even the most mild deviation from the the most extreme neoconservative rhetoric are banned from the site. Limbaugh's fans, "dittoheads", are centrists by comparison. Freepers are particularly obsessed with Bill Clinton's penis.

The group invalidates invalidates political internet polls by repetitive voting in order to skew the results as far right as possible, i.e. "We freeped that poll!" They troll any and all political forums.

See "Borg". Also, "freeped", "to freep". Should always be lowercase.

"Into the mud, freeper scum!"

3. Freeper

Noun

One who intentionally distorts, slanders, and spins.

Verb: Freep

1. "Bigot and defamation artist Jerome R. Corsi was admittedly a freeper.

2. "Don't freep the facts, as the freepers do!"

===================================================================

I hope this was helpful folks.

The disgusting, worthless rag of a morning paper, the Wisconsin State Journal endorsed both Bush and Feingold. I thought this might explain the odd votes in Warren county, but the numbers are just too far out of whack. Plus, I don't see how a Republican can vote for Bush on the one hand and a pro-choice, ACLUer on the other. That dog don't hunt.

124. Hold your horses. The Connally thing is probably NOT a smoking gun
The original free press article has had a correction posted. Summary of the numbers added for clarification:

2000 Butler County

President
Kerry 54,185 34%
Bush 106,735 66%
160,920 votes cast in county for President. Bush won county by 52,550

Chief Justice
Democract Connally 59,532 47%
Republican Moyer 66,625 52%
126,157 votes cast (78% of Presidential total) in county for Chief Justice. Moyer won by 7,093

In raw votes, Connally got 5347 more votes than Kerry

The 45,457 number for Bulter in the table is Bush's margin of victory over Kerry, 52,550, minus the Moyer margin of victory over Connnally, 7093. It is not clear to me what this number is supposed to indicate, but this is the "margin" that reflected by all those numbers. Some people have interpreted the numbers as the "Connally got xxx votes more than Kerry" -- and that is wrong.

I'm not sure how signficant all this will end up being and urge caution. If there is nothing to it, then they can say "Look at them grasp at straws."

The pattern is about the same as the 2000 results (see below). Until I hear a reason that the margin for the Connally Cheif Justice race would have a much bigger margin than in 2000, OR evidence that votes were hacked in 2000, I just don't see this as significant:

2004 Butler County

President
Bush,83,680 63.42%
Gore 44,661 33.85%
128,341 votes cast in county for President.

Supreme Court Justice Term commencing Jan. 1, 2001
Deborah Cook 60,936 55.22%
Tim Black 49,417 44.78%
110,353 votes cast (85% of presidential total)

Supreme Court Justice Term commencing Jan. 1, 2001
Terrence O'Donnell 58,897 51.93%
Alice Robie Resnick 54,517 48.07%
110,353 votes cast (88% of presidential total)

125. Focus on the racism. Focus on the systematic discriminatory practices
We know there was systematic discrimination.

That MUST be the focus.

I believe that the chances that we will uncover fraud in a standard recount are VERY low. They learned a lesson back in 2000. Unless you prevent Democrats from voting entirely, their votes might be counted.

If the poll-tax-lines (time is money) are correlated with racial, partisan status, or socio-economic status in any state, the results of election are UNACCEPTABLE.

I've heard claims that the margin of victory in this or that state puts the issue "outside the zone of litigation," which is an absurd notion that must be challenged. If we accept that notion, it means that a state can freely engage in discriminatory election practices as long as the votes cast by those who manage to get past the barriers lean strongly for one candidate or the other.

When classes of voters face intolerable barriers, the election is UNACCEPTABLE. The law may be focused on counting ballots and proving counts wrong, but we MUST change that. Elections are more than ballot counts and MUST demand that they meet basic standards of fairness, where no class of voters is denied an equal opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

We must figure out how to take the message to the courts, to the streets, to the news media, and to Congress:

Racist Elections? NOT IN MY COUNTY!

The beauty of this nation is that it is founded on a set of simple truths and simple moral positions. Our thinking about this election -- and the actions we demand -- must also be.

Is there some way we can push to get discrimination suits off the ground? Push the National Lawyers Guild or high profiles lawyers like David Boies, Alan Dershowitz, or Gerry Spence to get "on the case"?
