Constitution sez: "Lower representation of states who eff up elections?"
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 09:06 PM by crispini
(14th Amendment, Section 2): "But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States... is denied to any male inhabitant of such state... or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation shall therein be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of ... citizens."

8. the way I read it is
When citizens of a state lose the right to vote for an election for pres, for any reason that's not a crime, or a rebellion, then the state gets its "representation" reduced by the proportion of people who lost the right to vote in proportion to the whole number of citizens.

Not sure if "representation" would mean representatives or electors, though.

BUT, if it meant "Representatives" then that would mean that OH could lose a seat in the House, maybe?

3. would it be enough to lower the electoral vote total enough ??
that's what I'm reading right? if the right to vote is abridged, the state loses electoral votes in that amount?

6. That's amazing and should be widely told...
but if you take all of Ohio's electoral votes away from Bush, it still doesn't give them to Kerry and he doesn't have enough to win.

Sorry.
