weirdness in NM
I've posted this elsewhere, but not gotten much response on it. JW what you guys make of this...

In Valencia County, NM there are 491 more absentee votes for president than ballots cast, something that is obviously not possible. These problems are spread across virtually every precinct in the county (i.e. this is not another Ghanna-1b scenario). To me this looks like a pretty clear indication of tampering at the county level gone awry.

Here is my summary
Here is the primary source

2. Could they be spoiled ballots?
I am not trying to play devil's advocate because I have heard that there may have been a lot of fraud in NM. But do we know if those ballots listed are the ones counted or the ones submitted. If they were submitted, but for example 41 were thrown out in the first precinct then that would explain it.

I think you've got a sharp eye, though. Either way, great work!

By the way, have you seen the www.votersunite.org page? They have a whole laundry list of complaints that came from NM. http://www.votersunite.org/electionproblems.asp?sort=da...

3. I don't think that is a factor
The numbers with the extra votes match up with the county-wide totals (and county wide there are still more votes than ballots) so I dont believe that rejected ballots are not a factor and remember these are absentee ballots not provisional ones.

As for having a sharp eye I just spent some time writing a filter for the data so that I could focus on counties with suspicious numbers instead of spending days figuring out which counties had the suspicious numbers.

5. data collection
is the most time consuming part, if you really want to help with that I can give you a list of counties that seem interesting.

Also some one should do more than just talk about this. I'm not exactly sure how to get started on that and due to my background I'm probably not the best one to take the lead on that part anyway.

7. Data Collection ? You want data? You bet - coming soon
to a web page near you. A completely up-to-date, precinct by precinct analysis of NM, including precinct comparisons to both the 2000 and 2002 elections.

Believe me that's one BIG honkin' spreadsheet, but it's just about ready to be published. It's taken a long time to get it THIS far.

14. absentee and provisional data
Not to be picky, but that stuff (with the finest resolution available) is crucial because it's harder fake than ballots cast through the voting machines.

6. Speaking of NM...
Whatever happened to Sandoval County? I've been checking back over the past couple of days and they still have 10 out of 65 precincts reporting. The right time and date show up but no progress in this county.

11. it does
I think it is just listed as "total number of voters" and has been altered to match the exact same number as the number of ballots cast in the presidential race. The original page is saved but the value of that page, coming from one of us is much less than the value of that page posted on their site.

18. but what we really need is...
What we really need is not caching but for someone to go physically look at the absentee ballots and if they produce the higher number of ballots and envelopes to collect affidavits from those voters whose ballots they produce. Some of the samples are small enough that collecting affidavits from 100% of the voters should be feasible.

24. Great link!
That Invb site has everything!

Stupid question, though, does the votes cast category mean votes cast by Republicans or votes cast for the Republican candidate?

17. This is a pattern
I found this to be true in certain counties in Minnesota where there were some important races. The total number of voters in several precincts was too high when you added up the total number of signatures + absentees + military. Look at other counties where there were critical local races, too.

19. 491 votes is 8% of Bush's victory margin in NM
of 6,047 votes. Let's find those 5,556 other "extra" votes.

23. Send this to the NM Secretary of State
They may not even be aware of these strange patterns. And as Democrats, I'm sure they'd like to know. Don't forget Richardson is the governor and the Secretary of State is a staunch Democrat too.

It could well be that the e-voting machines used in NM were rigged from a central/remote location without local and state officials having any knowledge of it.
