How Political Lobbyists are Rocking the Vote in New York City

How Political Lobbyists are Rocking the Vote in New York City

Errol Louis

Thursday, December 31st 2009

Ten political insiders you've never heard of are about to cast a historic vote replacing New York City's lever-driven walk-in voting booths with modern scanners that many say are unreliable.

There's been precious little news coverage of the runup to a Board of Elections vote scheduled for Tuesday, when the 10 commissioners will select between two competing corporations vying for an estimated $38 million contract - that's certain to grow over time - to supply and service the new machines and train people in their use.

But this is no ordinary government contract decision. At stake is nothing less than the future of democracy, and whether New York City voters will have their ballots properly and accurately counted.

snip

New York is on the verge of turning our future voting process over to an unelected clique of people pursuing profits and power. That's no way to run a democracy.

1. How long does Bloomberg plan on being Mayor anyway?
Apparently he doesn't think he'd actually get elected again, so might as well do the Repuke thing and Diebold it.

Time to destroy every last fucking piece of shit electro-fraud machine on this planet, and prosecute those who make them for treason.

2. New York has severe budget deficit problems and tremendous revenue shortfalls.
The lever voting machines are great and reliable as hell. So the idiots in charge are going to spend money we don't have to replace voting machines are proven performers that don't need to be replaced. Corruption never had it so good.

3. What's more "American" than voter fraud?
That's why we have the electoral college. Fewer votes to buy.

The next shoe to drop is the "news" of how "existing voter fraud in the boroughs and villages of NY has forced the state government to provide a more secure voting system".

People in power seem to always fear for the loss of that power and tend to do whatever to maintain it. It's cave man stuff.

At least NY has had its day in the liberal sun. Here in NE FL, the "sunshine state", it's been the dark ages of reactionary politics since passage of the civil rights act.

5. Wilms - did you make a typo? Shouldn't "rocking" be "obliterating?"
:grr:
