My Email back from Harry Reid (I live in NV)
Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns
regarding irregularities during the November 2, 2004 election. I
understand your concerns and I appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, a Nevada district court judge refused to
reopen registration for Clark County residents who believed that
their voter application forms were destroyed. People who
registered but were not listed in the voter registration rolls were,
however, allowed to vote using a provisional ballot.

I am committed to ensuring that all elections are held in a
fair and legal manner and that every American is allowed to
exercise their right to vote. I believe that one important step in this
process is to ensure that there is a verified paper voter record in
order to maintain voter confidence. For this reason, I cosponsored
S. 2437, the Voting Integrity and Verification Act (VIVA)
introduced by Senator John Ensign (R-NV) on May 18, 2004. This
bill would clarify Congressional intent with respect to the
permanent paper record and voter verification provisions of the
Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002. Each voting machine
used for federal elections will be required to produce a voter
verified permanent paper record.

In the 2004 election, Nevada was the only state in the union
to have the electronic voting system in place statewide. I am
pleased with the success Nevada experienced with this system, and
I am hopeful that in the future, all states will be able to implement
electronic voting.

4. anybody can say anything in politics -- the fact is that Nevada is the
ONLY state in the union to have statewide paper ballot confirmation in place for November 2004.

Somebody deserves credit for that. When I talked to the Nevada SOS, Dean Heller, he seemed like he really GETS this stuff. Nice guy!

5. My understanding was that Clark County did not have Paper Trail...
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 12:07 AM by FullCountNotRecount
the rest of the state (GOP counties, did). This was a media creation to make us believe that NV was an honest state. Rove met with this guy in October. Rove is from Nevada. Clark County had the older Sequoia machines, too. Also a paper trail is good but you need each party to have random audits to make sure the machine totals match the paper....that's what we are doing in New Hampshire. Otherwise the paper receipts are worthless because they are counted up, the machine totals are.

7. Right
I voted in Clark. No paper trail. It wasn't a computer screen though, it was a large panel about 5'x4' with LEDs that lit up when you pressed the text, like a micro contact switch. There was no option to vote a straight ticket either. But there were no signs of intimidation, or any problems voting other than no paper.
