Voting while gay? Hacker says no.
DuPage County IL Election Commission Website Hacked
Citizens Instructed They May Not Be A Homosexual To Vote

Blogged by John Gideon at BradBlog

The Chicago Tribune has reported this evening that someone has hacked into the DuPage Co. Illinois Election. Under a list of qualifications for voters someone had added a new requirement that a voter may not be a homosexual.

Once the county election office was notified of the attack they removed the newly added requirement and took actions they thought would stop any further attacks. However, later on Thursday or sometime this morning another requirement was added that proclaimed, "Your grandfather must have voted."

It's such a relief to know how safe electronic voting is. Really. The concept of the will of the people is in safe hands.

edit: I'm actually wondering about the motives. This hacker must have known that these new additions would be caught. There might even be the possibility that these strange requirements were made intentionally to show them how unsafe their system is. Because it's almost as if he's mocking the things a rightwinger would do.

8. Exactly my thoughts. Someone making a mockery out of how easy it is to hack.

3. This is a positive development
I've been hoping that someone would actually hack into a voting system and clearly demonstrate that it can be done.
There can be no denying now.

4. YES! This is EXACTLY what progressives should do!
Screw up the system. Show that anyone CAN screw with the system. Don't try to "reverse hack" voting machines to make Democrats win. Simply hack the machines to produce stupid, moronic statements that show that computer voting is a fraud.

I'm still waiting for the entry of Spongebob Squarepants as U.S. Congressman somewhere.

6. Our ethics get in the way
If we were willing to do things as illegal as the current administration, there are lots of things we would have done by now.

9. Hacking to show it can be done is very different from hacking to steal
an election. How about messages like, "Anyone can hack into a voting machine." "I'm watching you."
"And the EAC said it has never been done."

14. :) Or how about "why would you want to vote on a machine that is less secure
than a Las Vegas slot machine?" Robin Williams line from "Man of the Year."

15. How about lines an e-voting machine might want to say if it had a voice
"You don't know me well enough to touch me there!"
"You sucker, you think I'm going to count that vote? I'm voting however I want!"
"Your vote has been re-routed to the candidate of my choice."
Stuff like that.

5. Question --
Is it as easy to hack into tabulation as it is a website?

13. Or, it could say:
"Only gay conspiracy theorists believe
voting machines can be hacked."

<G>

Actually, when Harri Hursti did his Diebold optical scan demonstration hack in front of the election official, Ion Sancho, in Tallahasse, the test question was something like:

"These voting machines cannot be hacked."
