To challenge Feeney Clint Curtis better of Democratic hopefuls

Democrats in the 24th Congressional District have one viable candidate -- Clint Curtis -- to challenge U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney, a Republican, in the November general election. The other Democrat, Andy Michaud, has done almost no campaigning. Michaud, a Casselberry veterinarian, avoids public appearances and has not updated his Web site in months, clear indications of his lack of interest in the job.

Curtis is a computer programmer from Titusville whose top priority is to "guarantee that every individual has the right to vote and . . . that every vote is counted." He says he wants to end a "culture of corruption" in government.

He strongly opposes privatization of Social Security. And he says the federal government is on the wrong track by insisting states use standardized tests, such as the FCAT, to measure success in education because "we are removing our children's ability to think and replacing it with the ability to follow orders." He is highly critical of the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq and calls for a Bosnia-like plan to end the war, withdraw troops and prevent civil war.

Snip

But Curtis clearly is more than a one-issue candidate and has extensive knowledge on a wide range of issues. It is not surprising, though, that his highest priority is to "secure free, fair and trustworthy elections."

Some of Curtis' positions may be difficult to sell to Congress, such as creating a national health-care plan using tariffs on imported goods. But all of his stands are well-thought-out and imaginative.

· RECOMMENDATION: Clint Curtis for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House, District 24

2. This is great news. We need to support Clint every way we can.

If he wins the nomination, his Congressional district needs to schedule multiple debates between Clint and Tom "Stump-Trained for Diebold" Feeney, one of the turdish clones of Tom DeLay who needs to be flushed in 2006.

Someone needs to post Clint's addresses for contributions. And if you know anyone who lives in his district, get them busy with GOTV and LTTE campaigns for this true American.

I am thankful to know Clint, and am proud of the standing ovation he got in Nashville at the National Election Reform Conference (April, 2005). Speaking truth to power -- what a concept! If Mr. Curtis goes to Congress, there might just be hope for this country after all.
