Blackwell Distributes Voter Lists with SS Numbers
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 08:03 AM by mod mom
More GOP incompetence raises it's ugly head:

Blackwell distributes voter lists with Social Security numbers

Tuesday, April 25, 2006
Sandy Theis
Plain Dealer Bureau Chief
Columbus -Secretary of State Ken Blackwell got some good news and some bad news on Monday.

The bad news: His office distributed 20 copies of registered voter lists that accidentally included millions of Social Security numbers.

The good news: No one who received a copy has a history of identity theft.

Blackwell, the Republican Party's leading candidate for governor in the May 2 primary, learned of the snafu from a Democrat.

Consultant Alan Melamed said he and an associate asked for and received a computer disc of all registered voters in Ohio. The disc included a group of numbers, listed under the heading "school district," that looked a little familiar, he said.

2. So the Republican candidate for governor is encouraging identity theft?
Color me unsurprised. I wonder if, should any of those people have their identity stolen, if they will be able to sue Blackwell and the state GOP.
