Absentee Ballot Warning in CA!!!!!!
ABC news reports that the absentee ballots are printed on heavy paper
and the actual postage is 60 cents, not 37 cents.

"Officials recommend putting the additional postage on the ballot to be
sure it arrives."

1. We had that happen here in Washington
I think a smart postal official put out the word to let them through as long as they had the 37 postage.

2. Hmm. I am sure that was just an oversight. This is not something that
would be done deliberately to cancel the votes of certain people not in the know. No one would do such a thing. :sarcasm:

5. my envelope said first class postage
and that's what I put on it

I think it's incredibly cheap for election offices to require people pay for postage anyway

I don't understand why absentee ballots aren't free to return

6. Might be true, but I don't think it matters.
That would mean I sent my last ballot with insufficient postage, and it didn't come back. They probably realize that if they return virtually all the absentee ballots in the State to sender they are going to have one hell of a major problem on their hands. Not sure how many ballots that would be, but I can say that the overwhelming majority of my friends and family vote absentee.

I think they would have to return a shitload of ballots.

7. Well a lot of Repugs use absentee ballots and
if the post office returns votes, a lot of Repugs will have their vote returned.

8. I will drive mine to the Registrar of Voters office
I am so paranoid now, I got an absentee ballot and I plan to drop it off in person -- they have a drive-up window, but I won't even use that! I won't be satisfied until I walk it myself up to the desk and hand it personally to a clerk.

And if I could, I'd ask if they'd let me watch while they scanned it in or whatever comes next, and ask if I can take a photo of them while they do it!

Am I too paranoid?

(btw, I'm not kidding about my plan to drop it off in person)

9. CA ballots *always* over an ounce.
I've been voting absentee for some time. It always takes more than base postage. This is a small ballot and I weighed it as more than an ounce.

11. It's too late to mail the CA absentee ballot - it has to get there by
election day and at this point, you can't be sure it will. Take it to a precinct.

13. C'mon:
If you are not taking your absentee ballot into the PO to have it date and time cancelled, with a receipt, you are not doing your part to address potential fraud.
