Resigned EAC Commissioner Soaries on Hardball Tonight - 7 PM ET

May, 6 2005 @ 7PM ET

Friday, 7 p.m. ET

Can hanging chads, voter fraud and
election lawsuits be stopped?

President Bush appointed Reverend
Deforest Soaries to find out. But
why is the reverend quitting so soon?

Soaries to leave panel
Vote reform became frustrating effort

By RICK MALWITZ

Frustrated with the way the government treated the federal Election Assistance Commission, Rev. DeForest "Buster" Soaries of South Brunswick, its first chairman, announced yesterday that he will leave the commission next week.

"Our mission was to distribute $3 billion, and help protect the most fundamental right Americans have," said Soaries, 53. "But when we found ourselves begging for resources as if we were a Boy Scout troop it begged the question: Why was I spending so much time away from my family for this?"

"All four of us had to work without staff, without offices, without resources. I don't think our sense of personal obligation has been matched by a corresponding sense of commitment to real reform from the federal government," he said.

"We were approved by the president and confirmed by the Senate, but had no instructions what to do. There is no handbook how to set up a federal agency. We had to find office space, order telephones, arrange our own travel, arrange our own ethics' briefings," said Soaries.

Congress approved a budget of $10 million for the EAC, but appropriated only $1.2 million, according to Soaries. Ultimately the commission distributed $2.3 billion to the states for voting improvements.

no agenda. It was all to give the politicians something they could point to when they bray about how hard they are working for clean elections It was totally cynical, and this man made that painful discovery the hard way, by being driven to it. He needs to talk to Rep. Conyers.

dzika, I'm hoping that since you posted this, you plan to also post a link to a video clip later. I'll be checking back to see what happens. Whether you do or you don't, thank you for all you do.

12. "its legal for state to use outmoded equipement"

"repression implies motivation, no politician wants to make headlines"

Basically, Matthews asked the right questions, the guest implied that the election was honestly run.

13. Thanks for that report.
Even without the Soaries questioning the election, the fact that it's discussed questions the election.

like a broken record but, Don't stop doing whatever it is you are doing,we are starting to get the election fraud story out there, and the media giants are not going to be able ignore it much longer. This shows that they are starting to figure that out.

Thanks dzika....
