Diebold stock took a major hit when it "gapped" down the other day, a 10% price drop. That's big.

See the graph.
http://charts3.barchart.com/chart.asp?sym=DBD&data=A&jav=adv&vol=Y&evnt=adv&grid=Y&code=BSTK&org=stk&fix=

Was it due to the general market drop? Or was it due to something else?

This is a stock which in spite of the news we are all familiar with, has performed extremely well over the last few years - until this week.

Could this be a clue that the Diebold story is starting to get out to the investment community - and that something may be developing at the company?

The performance of the stock may be correlated to the whole issue of Election Fraud.

Stay tuned.

1. We'll keep working to make sure everyone thinks "Diebold" is
a dirty word.

Which it is.

Hit 'em where it hurts. Actually, in the only place they have any feeling left.

2. 2 big possibilities
First Velvet Rev's divestiture campaign. Diebold may be the only publicly held co. that makes this junk!

Or, it could be that the election biz is a large part of their earnings. When you consider how much a DRE costs to make (Pentium 100 MHz can be found in trash heaps and turned into DRE CPU's!), not unlike the SUVs, they probably have a large profit margin. So even if no one divests their stock holdings, a reduction in DRE sales might affect earnings. We should try to find out what percentage of their earnings comes from election systems.

The question is what to do about the other purveyors of potentially fraudulent votin' machines that are not traded publicly on the stock exchange. Not much corporate democracy there, any more than at Bechtel or and other family owned business.

Has anyone looked into this?

3. It's the spread betting you really want to watch.
It's by far the most reliable indicator of what's really going on on the inside of any business.

10. Thanks for that reminder, Chomp.
Welcome to DU.

What ever happened about the short-selling of United and American Airline stocks, BTW?

4. Its working.....The divestment is diving the corporate empire...
If it divests it and bleeds it dry, Diebold will be in trouble!

Oh no, Tommy Delay can't have that. It costs him his spot in the limelight!

5. OK, I'm trying to remember something. You know those moments....
...in which you're trying to dig some obscure item out of the remote file cabinet, far away in the basement of your mind...

a quote in a news article
maybe quoted here at DU, maybe not
Diebold exec? maybe
definitely an electronic voting machine co. exec
something about continuing to make voting machines even if it's not a moneymaker, cuz of civic duty or something (I remember my cynical inner laugh about that)
fairly recent quote--can't tie date of quote to anything, but read it fairly recently
maybe had something to do with VR, but not sure

anybody else remember this quote?

6. CEO Walden O’Dell says Diebold plans to stick with .....
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 01:04 PM by Chi
Heya Peace Patriot (waves)
"CEO Walden O’Dell says Diebold plans to stick with the voting machine unit regardless of profits. He says he sees it as a civic duty. “The country had a crisis, it was instantly apparent to me that we could help.” O’Dell has no regrets, come November, elected officials, however selected, will find out if he was right."
