AJC: Election Conspiracy Theories Persist
Election conspiracy theories persist

By JULIA MALONE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 11/09/04

WASHINGTON — Planning for President Bush's second term is well under way, but some disappointed supporters of Democratic Sen. John Kerry are not giving up — at least not yet.

Fueled by skepticism about voting machinery and vivid memories of the election debacle of Florida four years ago, conspiracy theories are swirling around the Internet.

Activists are forming groups with names like stolenelection2004.com, and members of Ohio Recount 2004 are assembling to share their suspicions.

7. Agreed
I was hoping to convey the f**k her part more than the conspiracy part.

4. more like...STRATEGY theorists
Not one of these "journalist" would say "conspiracy" if this was happening in another country. Jesus, they are so blind!

8. Ain't that the truth!

Imagine this scenario in any other country

1) Candidate's brother (who is governor of an important province), working with candidate's campaign co-chairperson (who is also in charge of counting the votes), disqualifies tens of thousands of voters without any evidence whatsoever

2) Candidate's party operatives forcibly shut down the recount in an important district

3) Campaign co-chairperson (see #1) refuses to accept recount results favoring candidate's opponent because they are handed in 2 hours after her arbitrary deadline

4) Judge (who is later forced to decline an invitation by partisan group that he had previously accepted to attend a cozy get-together at a resort area) wastes valuable time by demanding that the opposing candidate ship him thousands of controversial ballots by truck, only to refuse to look at them after they arrive.

5) Finally, Vice Presidential candidate's hunting buddy on the Supreme Court, (who owes his job to the candidate's/plaintiff's father) suddenly decides that the court should get involved in the process, and, lo and behold, declares the plaintiff (candidate) the winner because he might be hurt otherwise.

If this had happened in ANY OTHER COUNTRY, Americans would have immediately labeled the election a fraud. But because it happened in the good ol' USA, it is, by default, an "honest election"

:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

9. Excellent
We are getting some attention. What? Did you expect the first stories to be positive? Hahaha

We are up against a very strong opponent, ya know - the squatter in the White House, and the majority of the press is in his camp.

It is most excellent that we are getting any attention at all. Keep e-mailing.

10. Those who resist proper and reasonable oversight ....
Of our state's and nation's election balloting, knowing there is a possibility of fraud, are violating the trust of the nation as a whole ....

Calling these questions 'conspiracy theories' are a form of ad hominem attack ....

12. At This Point, No Publicity is Bad Publicity
The more articles the better. Get it in the front of everyone's mind, including the uninformed and the right-wingers. All it will take takes is one smoking gun to change the attitude to these "conspiracy theories."
