Election machines rigged... or not? (David Shuster)

"I've been inspired today by the courageous reporting of my MSNBC colleague Keith Olbermann. So, I've decided to jump into the controversy swirling around the election results in Florida and Ohio. For the last several hours, your favorite Hardball correspondent has been pouring through vote tabulations county by county..."

<snip>
(stuff about Florida not looking out of line but hes going to look at the 2000 data, Dixiecrats etc)

<snip>

"...Regarding Ohio: 70% of the state used a punch card ballot system similar to the chad producing method used by much of Florida in 2000. Ohio's Secretary of State reports that more than 92,000 votes did not count. Some ballots were cast improperly (over votes or under votes) and other ballots were counted incorrectly. Furthermore, in Cuyahoga County (greater Cleveland) there were more votes cast than registered voters. The margin was not small... 93,000 more ballots cast than registered voters. As Keith Olbermann reported last night, in Fairview Park (west of Cleveland) there were 13,342 voters registered... but 18,472 votes were cast. And last week, Ohio officials acknowledged that in the town of Gahanna (just outside of Columbus) in one district with only 800 voters, a voting machine added 3,893 votes for President Bush.

What does it all mean? In Ohio, there are definitely more questions than answers tonight. In Florida, I'm not so sure. But, our review continues... "

And then there were two.... :)

1. Yeah, Hardball ... Matthews have got any of those yourself?
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 01:05 AM by Pirate Smile
Shuster mainly reports on Hardball.

At the end of his story he gives his e-mail. If you have any other good information, send it to him.

2. I'm going to bookmark this and read later. I like Shuster.
He's got a way of cutting things to the bone. I just hope he can see his way through the fog.

Thanks for the heads-up.

6. I remember Shuster doing a piece from a fair in OH.
Can't remember if it was the state fair or not, but he was looking for people who were switching from Gore to bush and vice versa. He was able to find lots of people that voted for bush in 2000 that were going to vote for Kerry, but couldn't find one Gore voter who was switching to bush. I can smell the stench from Ohio all the way in Arizona.

7. Someone needs to send Shuster some of the more
blatant inconsistencies.

I'm not on top of the evidence, but it would help to have another media person helping out.

And I think this guy is a "reporter," a rarity these days.

Unfortunately ABC News seems to be going full bore to discredit anything related to vote fraud.

11. I don't know if my little factoid is meaningful, but...
Shuster used to be a "reporter" on the 700 Club, Pat Robertson's show. As was Campbell Brown.

16. I wrote him earlier explaining the
Florida website data was updated yesterday. When the data was first put under the spotlight there were unmistakable abnormalities that do not seem to be present in the updated version. My question is what are the two sets of data.....raw and scrubbed? What triggered the updates??

Second I pointed out that if you compare the number of Registered voters as of 9/2004 to what is seemingly Registered voters of November 2, 2004 there are counties that had an decrease in total number of registered voters, an increase in total number of register voters, and neither and increase or decrease in registered voters.

Another issue with the changes in regesterd voters is when we quote percentage of registered democrats to percentage of registered republicans we are using the September data (at least I am I didn't see the break down for the latest totals). The percentage may not be accurate.

Unfortunately, since these are total per county they would be the net total which means you cannot ascertain a true purge and new registration total. However, using the net totals:

5 counties had a decrease in registered voters; Glades, Lee, Palm Beach, Polk and Taylor. The total number decrease; 26202.

2 counties; DeSoto and Miami-Dade did not change during the period.

Florida attempted to begin a voter purge (felons) in June 2004, similar to the one in 2000. Fortunately, they scraped the effort. Then apparently, they decided they might use the list for Election Day challenges. I do not know if they followed through on that threat. The list was reported to be "nearly” 63% registered democrat compared to 20% registered republicans. However, I have included links to two excellent articles with regards to that effort.

Did they decide to purge those nasty democratic (maybe) felons after all?? I'm thinking they did.

National Voting Rights Advocates Condemn Attempt By Florida Gop To Revive Voter Purge List

(as a side not all of the “press releases” with this one are well worth the read)

GOP may wield felon list
