KOEB Wednesday -- anyone?
------------------------------------------------------
Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

Life, death or new trial? The sentencing hearing for Scott Peterson was under way Wednesday, with a judge about to hear from defense lawyers and the family of Laci Peterson, whom Scott Peterson was convicted of murdering along with their unborn child.

Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann broadcasts LIVE at 8 pm et, and the count is never complete without you. Join us. Alison Stewart in for the vacationing Keith all this week.

The father of missing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford said Wednesday he is confident she will be found safe as investigators searched for a "person of interest" who was apparently acquainted with the girl.

A "person of interest" who was apparently acquainted with missing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford but is now outside Florida is being sought for questioning, authorities said Tuesday. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7190457/

A source close to the Michael Jackson child molestation case has exclusively shown ABC News what he says is a transcript of a tape-recorded interview with Jay Leno, and in that transcript, Leno appears to contradict the alleged victim's testimony that he never spoke directly to "The Tonight Show" host. Leno told authorities that the mother put the boy on the phone. "I don't know if he's reading from a script, but it just sounded coached," Leno says. (ABC news)

The Department of Homeland Security, trying to focus antiterrorism spending better nationwide, has identified a dozen possible strikes it views as most plausible or devastating, including detonation of a nuclear device in a major city, release of sarin nerve agent in office buildings and a truck bombing of a sports arena. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/16/politics/16home.html?hp&ex=1111035600&en=083f2bf6b69b9744&ei=5094&partner=homepage

The cardinal leading the Vatican's charge against The Da Vinci Code urged Catholics on Wednesday to shun it like rotten food and branded the bestseller "a sack full of lies" insulting the Christian faith. He also said Catholic bookstores should take the thriller off their shelves and accused U.S. author Dan Brown of "deplorable" behavior.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7189709/

That's some of what we're working on for tonight's show.

Finally,
Robert Downey (of London... not the actor) had the mask and the attitude to be a successful robber. But he ruined the effect when he tried to stage a hold-up at his local bookmaker's shop - using a banana. Noting the suspicious bend in the so-called "weapon," the clerk calmly called the police and on Wednesday, Downey was jailed for nearly seven years for attempted robbery.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BRITAIN_BANANA_ROBBERY?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME

Not to side with criminals or anything, but does a banana hold-up really warrant seven years?

Here's a quick quiz on political labels for you junkies out there. Of the two major political parties, which one is spending money like water, creating new welfare entitlements, rapidly expanding the power of the federal government and launching idealistic wars of liberation around the globe? Answer: The Republicans. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7206305/

An airliner carrying 49 people crashed in Russia's far north on Wednesday, Russia's Transport Ministry said. Officials said at least 17 people survived. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7205349/

1. For the EDVS of the KOEB
Their are strange things done in the midnight sun
by the men who would kill the world for oil.

The arctic trails have secret tales
that could make your blood run cold.

The northern lights have seen queer sights .....
but the queerest they ever did see;
Was for money .....
"those thugs" would kill the earth, the sky, and the sea.

We said that this place, a gem, was one of the last .....
but the greedy bastards said, "But Alaska is vast."

So on the North slope
nature will choke.

And on the bush death train we all ride.
Do they not know, we have no place to hide?

Big ups to Robert Service

25. Awww. What a cute "buggy!"
The Matchbox car my son gave me is red with the Union Jack on the roof. I fell in love with them when we went to England. That was a couple of months before they came over here.

I'm fine. Had an interview today with an architecture firm. They need an office manager - not exactly what I want to do, but they're interested in using my marketing skills from time to time. The pay is decent and they pay ALL of your family's health insurance coverage. So, I'm considering it.

it.
It'll probably be a few months of monotony until I'm comfortable enough to create my own position - which is what I did at the last place I was at.
My recruiter thinks my company cut the wrong person. LOL. She says they'll suffer without my bringing in those, oh, 800+ leads I brought in in three years. And, there were a couple of months where my joint marketing collections were MORE than the sales staff had sold. So, :P on them!

the job description.
I'd say, they'll probably have me do office work to see what my skill set is before letting me take any other initiatives. Apparently, they're backed up with paperwork and need to get caught up.

LOVE that movie. Long Duck Dong! LOL!

And I felt bad for Jon Cryer's character - (Duckie?) 'Tis sad to watch the one you love hunger after another.

Deserves a thread of his own. He's so good. I was really pleased to see him on those VH-1 "I Love the 80s" shows.

TOS = The Original Series
TNG = The Next Generation

I love StarTrek. Not a geek, though. But I have one friend who's part of a group that assign species, rank, etc.. to every member. She wants to attend the school where she learns to speak Klingon.

I always wanted to do a paper on the theology of StarTrek. It would sell.

Of course, it was one of those versitle ones that could go on my hardwood floors or the carpet in the den and we'd just bought the house the month before my birthday - so, I guess that "house newness" (and the fact that I was 6 months pregnant) probably colored my perspective. LOL!

60. Hi, everyone, Whirly here. I can't stay...
... gotta give up the computer because Work Comes First. So, will be back later to see if there's still any activity here.

Funny thread in the clubhouse today about, um, horoscopes.

I'm still feeling real happy about Robert Blake's acquittal. Makes me mad that the talking heads are all spinning it to read "that doesn't mean he didn't do it" and the jury "wasn't saying he was innocent."

Do these people -- Dan Abrams, especially - understand that the social contract implied in our system of justice is that if you go through a trial and are found NOT GUILTY, it means just what it says?

Anyway, I have to get off here but I wanted to get that grievance off my chest.
(Whirl steps down off soapbox.)

Oh, yeah -- I noticed we had competing meeting threads tonight again. As a SOLUTION, how about someone starting the blog at 7:57 or :58 from now on, so we can all say hi and be ready to blog when the show starts?
That's how we USED to do it, and it seemed to work well.

Okay, so, see you all later if you're still around. :hi:

84. Do you think that Clint Van Zandt
the expert Alison's talking to about Jessica, is related to the other Van Zandts?

You know: Steven, Townes, Ronnie, Donnie... :)

I have to say, as pleased as I am that Elizabeth Smart turned up unharmed and alive, her dad has always creeped me out.

But then the whole place will explode again, when she wears it!

(Tho it would be nice for everyone to see that ladies aren't the only ones who swoon over pretty people!)
