KOEB (Keith's blog Tuesday)
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 01:19 PM by AmyJCNJ
I just had to post early. I won't be home until late tonight, so I'll miss the KOEB party.

Did you guys see Keith's blog "Why I stopped blogging about politics" today?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240/

Is Keith sick of politics?

1. No, I think he's just tired of
hearing it from both sides. It's like he says--if he reports a story factually, and it happens to contain facts that people don't like, they jump on him for it.

We've been as guilty of it as the "other" side, I guess. Remember when Bev Harris claimed that he'd been silenced on voting reform and we all panicked and it turned out that it wasn't true?

The funny part of this blog is where he quotes from the wing-nuts who sent him letters over SpongeBob!

And I love that he's a self-admitted bad speller. I'm a writer and bad speller too!

4. yeah I can see that
There is one person on a message board I belong to that thinks we're all sell outs because we like Howard Dean.

Not everything is a conspiracy. I always get accused of being a freeper when I say that.

But I understand all sides: We are living 1984, it's hard not to see a conspiracy in everything.

20. Oooooooooh, THANK YOU, Miami Liberal for re-posting this photo!
'Cause he's LOOKING RIGHT AT ME and he knows telepathically what I'm thinking!!!
It' so much QUICKER than e-mail!!
:loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya:

(It's okay, Keith, we understand that what's actually rattling you is the tsunami of mash notes and marriage proposals you're receiving. What makes me say that?
Well, when have you ever been a stranger to controversy, political or otherwise?-- you even have a back-up backbone to help steel you against criticism!
On the other hand, waking up in your 40s and discovering suddenly there are hundreds of women who are as interested in dressing you as in the stories you report -- now, THERE'S a situation designed to perplex even the most hard-bitten, seasoned newsman!
Let's be frank: THAT'S why all this OTHER stuff is getting on your last nerve, isn't it! ;-))

This paragraph really got me:

What wore me out, of course, was the idea that because I was presenting news that a viewer didn’t like, I had to have sold out to one party or another, and/or fabricated it. The woman presumed that I had created a fictional character, was stupid enough to quote him on national television, and was guilty of both these crimes and had to get a note from John Kerry that I wasn’t making it up.

I think Keith needs a big ol hug--

Unfortunately, "Alexandra" seems to not be dwelling in the reality-based community .... the same thing is true of a lot of people on the internet, unfortunately. Some people DO need to get lives.

But, Keith, amigo, you also have to realize that some people really ARE divorced from reality. The internet is a weird place, and its dark underbelly is a shadow of a shadow, a country of lies, deceptions, and tinfoilhats. And you can't let the criticism of the non-reality based get to you, sugar. To people like "Alexandra" the only response is really :eyes:

Edit to add: Thanks for posting, Amy! A little daytime KOEB action is always fun! :hi:

I thought of the song when Keith went on Al Franken's show.
All of Al's regular guests have theme songs, so I thought if Keith was going to be a regular guest we'd have to produce a theme song for him.

8. He got sick of this crap during the Clinton years..
When he first made the jump from Sports to Politics.
He just burned out man.
I remember that.
Can't say I blame him.
Unfortunately, I am afraid that alot of GOOD people in the MSM are going to be burned along with the rest of them, when the MSM comes crashing down.

:loveya:

but he has to understand that we have been LIED to so many times that we tend to assume that anything we hear or read that does not make sense might be a lie.

:eyes:

He should not take it personally when people express their skepticism or doubts. Instead, he should applaud viewers for questioning what they hear.

37. It must get tiring though.
Because it is so easy for some ASSHOLE, liberal or conservative, to fire off some angry letter, to publicly berate, accuse, malign, and heck, libel someone.

You are right, it takes a backbone, I think he actually has one, I just think he gets tired of it all.

I love Keith, always have!
I hope he feels better about things later..

Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 03:00 PM by 8_year_nightmare
but Keith needs to know that the confusion out there is coming from the media's misinformation:

I just want you to know, Keith, that I appreciate your integrity.

All I ask of any person who presents the news on tv or writes a column is to lay out the facts. My expectations are humble: no glossing, no misinformation to slant toward one side, no cheerleading.

Truth is truth. Right is right; wrong is wrong. That's not an unreachable guideline for reporters with your integrity, but when did it become difficult for so many other journalists?

The reason you appear to "be on the side of Democrats" is because you're speaking the truth, and those in your viewership who are accustomed to hearing misinformation, including some Democrats (re: Alexandra's confusion), are the ones complaining.

The truth is, Keith, it's time that the media sees that they are the problem. The misinformation and the cheerleading have to stop. The misinformation output of the media is hugely responsible for all the rabid defenders of this corrupt administration, as well as the frustration & disgust of the Democrats who recognize how horrible & dangerous this administration is & that the People are being had. The media is just as responsible as this administration for the deep division in this country.

If the media is fed up about being manipulated & controlled by this administration, they now have a golden opportunity to fix that problem by getting the truth out about such characters & WH stooges as "Gannon", Armstrong Williams, Maggie Gallagher, and Michael McManus. And you know what, I'll bet there are a lot more journalists out there who have been bought off to represent this administration's dirty work in a favorable light.

All I ask is that the media tell the truth, regardless of which party benefits or gets the blow. My guess is that this administration is about 30 scandals, at least, overdue for an impeachment. Why was Clinton's lie about an affair more important than what Bush is doing to this country & why doesn't the media get that?

I wish all journalists were like you, Keith. It's plain to see that you've got integrity. Thanks for all you do.

over the Alexandra's of the world. I help people with their genealogical research and some people get upset when you tell them where they can look for answers to their questions. Like I'm going to spend my time (and money) contacting libraries and archives for them! People like that can get into a circular firing squad as far as I'm concerned.

on edit: a circular firing squad goes with their circular thinking.
