5. They said "some" people think JOHN KERRY won and that "they"
stold the election.

It was a teaser ad........for the NIGHTLINE show that will be on in just a few minutes.

I'm sure that is what the ad said.

6. you'll be disappointed
It's not a very well done show, and you won't like the conclusions. The end part where they discuss past electoral fraud is useful for those unfamiliar with the history of fraud in American elections.

21. Whatever it is, probably not enough.
People are too lazy, the vast majority of Democrats now don't even seem to give a damn.
I don't think we are going to convince anybody at this point, we are all just preaching to the choir.

Where to go from here... Election reform I hope.
We need to get something good out of this whole fiasco.

10. OK, figured it out....AND I'M RIGHT!
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 03:06 AM by autorank
There was an earlier thread on this. Now I've figured it out, thinking like the CM (Corporate Media). Here is how they do it. There are people, major power factions, who do not like * at all. The power structure in this country is not universally stupid or self-destructive. Kopel raises the 'possibility' of a stolen election and then takes the position that it really didn't happen. THEN at the end, they talk about election fraud as a reality. This is the PREDICATE: election fraud is real, but 2004 is not one of those elections; not calling people crazy and, at the same time, not really giving it a fair hearing. THEN when * refuses to knock off whatever the anti * power structure wants him to knock off, Teddy K can come back and say (like Rick in Casa Blanca): "Shocked, I am utterly shocked but there was some election fraud in 2004." And the drip, drip, drip starts.

This shit is always more complicated than it looks. This predicate may or may not be used but it's there. Why else would he show it? Oh, big news, there was NO election fraud in 2004. No way. This is a chess move.

By the time they make the next move, public awareness will pass them by. This crap may have worked in toppling Nixon but in the cyber age, it's far too slow and ponderous. Let's get with it CM, go with a combination fraud (+) sex scandal. That will do the trick!

Now I shall retire to read Borges!

Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 03:05 AM by autorank
They put it out there, it's a warning. A full story would be a broadside and it's too early in the game for that. They're just letting Rove know that they can mess him up when they want to. There will be some sanctimonious crap from Ted on a future NightLine about all the letters and how they "blablabla." But, you watch, this WILL become a CM major story at some point. That point will not be driven by the facts. It is entirely their timeline. Fun, huh! Ay Carumba!

17. I think you may be onto something
I had similar thoughts even as I was blowing raspberries at the television...there was just the tiniest bit of weird in the lack of vicious slamming of us in this MSM piece.

Hedging their bets? "Nothing to see here...but in case there is, you heard it here first!"

23. Good point, anti-news story?
I was wondering why Ted Kopple did a whole show on "there is no election fraud in 2004". It was kinda anti-news. It's strange, when was the last time they did a "there is no news here" story? I don't ever remember one I'm old and my memory is fading. Does anyone else know any other anti-news stories? Watergate? Civil Rights? Jim Crow laws?

20. For the 4,467th time
please do not dignify Bev Harris as a GOP "plant". She's in it for the money and the fame.

The taste of Republican butt does not improve with age.

16. Might also be put there to "diffuse" the image of milllions of protestors
in D.C. tomorrow, and across the country...with signs that say "Stolen Election." It's gonna be hard to block all of us out entirely. And since most people still haven't heard the whole story on MSM, what a better idea than ABC "clarifying" the issue as mis-information ahead of time. Then the masses can just sigh, roll their eyes and non-thinkingly look away from any protests they see tomorrow as 'poor, misinformed idiots'...whose lives would improve if they joined the MSM/TedKoppel world view.

Just my take on it...

Thank god Nightline is there to defend the status quo against all those conspiracy theorists--exit polls are only accurate in the Ukraine & Palestine, not in America, where apparently, Americans aren't quite capable of this very difficult endeavor.

Sleep well.

Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 12:22 PM by pbartch
when Nightline did the "John Kerry didn't deserve the PURPLE Hearts for his Valor in Viet Nam" story in October or November, that Koppel would do an accurate and unbiased report.

He is a stupid hack, a moron, a dam Repuke.
