Holiday Shopping Boycott -- Will You Join? (Wear a Black Armband, Too!)
Okay, folks, another one of our members came up with this idea (but can't post yet according to the new rules), so I'm doing it for 'em.

Its a HOLIDAY SHOPPING BOYCOTT!!! Come, join the fun!!! Pledge NOT to spend money on gifts, etc. this holiday season (except home made, second hand and/or from LOCALLY OWNED stores), AND wear a black armband AT LEAST UNTIL the "inauguration" of the "mandate man!"

WE WANT THE ELECTION FRAUD INVESTIGATED, ALL OF THE VOTES COUNTED, AND (HOPEFULLY) JOHN KERRY AS OUR PRESIDENT IN JANUARY!!!

If we REALLY did lose by such a HUGE margin (sarcasm!) and Bush has a mandate, well, it won't really hurt anything, will it, because this is a democracy, and if there aren't enough of us to make a difference, who cares? BUT if we are right, and SHOULD BE RESPECTED, HIT THEM IN THE POCKET BOOK!!!

RISE UP, RISE UP & JOIN THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING BOYCOTT!!! Wear a black armband to show YOUR SUPPORT for investing the voter fraud, counting the votes, and the RESURRECTION OF OUR DEMOCRACY!!!

Take that, you CHEATING son of a bitch!!!

P.S. Can some other people post this in the other forums? I don't want to irritate the mods with the same post four times!!!

2. My sister asked what I wanted for Christmas.
I said Salon premium membership, Buzzflash premiums, money donated to any and all of the sites that have kept me sane.

4. beautiful idea. what if we channel our "THINGS" fetish differently
and use spare money to support liberal causes? Stay away from WalMart and Home Depot and all the other brickabrack dispensaries.

JUst shut down this economy with greatly reduced DEM SPENDING.

I'm all for it.

Please think of ways to tell others.

6. I had been thinking that someone needs to call for a day of National
Mourning to mark the retake of the oval office by the bush goons. I was thinking that January 20th would be the perfect day for that National Day of Mourning with memorial services all over the United States to celebrate and mourn at the same time our diminishing democracy at the hands of the bush goons.

after reading your post, I am thinking that wearing a black arm band on JANUARY 20th to signify our opposition to the bush boy goon might really need to be a call to action!

7. Somebody should start a website called...
Blue Christmas. We could list specific stores and products to boycott and those that we should support. A lot of people on my list this year are getting cds by REM, Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Eminem, Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Dave Matthews Band, etc.

I'd also like to see a place where DUers and other progressives could put links to their own merchandise, businesses or items that they are selling on eBay.

Let's support each other and bleed the bushbots dry.

10. What took you guys so long?
I've been doing this since they stole the last election. Many may think it's a fruitless endeavor, but I don't. I will NOT help these thieves in any way and I can't wait to see the country get even worse during the next 4 years. Seriously, we have the power in our numbers. Pull your money out of the stock market and put it in CD's (that includes your 401K money). Don't buy anything you can live without (you'll find many benefits from doing this). When you do make a purchase, think very carefully about where/what you purchase and why. Even though I usually like to "shop locally" I will not support any of the little shops in my Repug village - especially those that displayed Bush/Cheney signs. Let them go under as they have been doing since these goons took office. I'll be the first to laugh when they close their doors.

22. yeah shopping locally is tough in my parish
I live in a heavily GOP dominated Louisiana parish. I'm not much of a shopper anyway but I already bought some gifts earlier in the year while I was visiting Kenya, I've started making others, and now I am thinking if I do buy, I'll investigate some minority owned businesses in New Orleans. I'm tired of putting money in the pockets of scumbags.

14. i'm in. i also think this needs to be organized and the message spread.
if a symbol -- armband, bumper sticker, whatever -- is agreed upon, i'd gladly wear it for the next four years. i think it's important to remind others constantly of what happened.

we should also remind certain companies and retailers that we will be boycotting them this holiday season, in part because of their support for the bush administration and its agenda.

18. That's good for me!
I'd make an exception for books , movies, songs and clothing with an anti-bush or anti-war agenda. We need to support those authors and try to get them from non-corporate sources and spread their message.

20. Another Aspect to consider posting
in the state forums, post local stores you know are owned by Democrats. We need to have a central place to go when we are getting ready to buy things - lists of locations (we should have ways to verify that businesses are legit Demo or progressive), online stores, manufacturers, etc. May take some doing but worth it.

Question: Armband on right or left?

21. Buy Nothing Day
Adbusters has an annual Buy Nothing Day on the day after Thanksgiving. I've been participating for a few years. I can't say I won't buy any Xmas gifts, but I can certainly cut back.
