I just turned my computer on 10 minutes ago and I've already read articles on DU which talk about book banning for both political and social reasons, suppression of any positive portrayal of homosexuality, suppression of political speech on the Internet, and the Bush Administration's support for displaying the Ten Commandments in courthouses. About a half an hour ago, I turned on CSPAN and I caught some forum on religion and social values, in which they were discussing ways to get religion (of course, they don't mean "religion" - they mean Christianity) into the government.

These people are coming out of the woodwork. They're spewing hate and misinformation. They're shredding our Constitution and turning the clock back on science, education, civil rights and social justice.

AND NO ONE IS STOPPING THEM!!!

When DUers and other progressives try to spread the word, we're ridiculed or simply dismissed as "nut cases" - even by friends and family members. The Dems in Congress are powerless to do anything except complain because, as John Conyers said yesterday, the checks and balances in our government are gone. We can't vote the bad guys out of office because the machines are rigged. We can't throw them in jail because the White House controls the Justice Department. Even if we launch a huge protest in Washington, no MSM will cover it (remember the reproductive rights rally?). * shows up in public looking like a dictator in that creepy jacket and no one in the MSM mentions it!

I'm sorry ... I don't mean to sound so negative ... but I'm very upset. It's getting worse everyday. Our basic rights as Americans are being taken away and no one seems to care. The US has turned its back on everything it's supposed to stand for and no one seems to care. Our Constitution has become a meaningless piece of paper and no one seems to care. We've lost our country, and soon our entire way of life, and no one seems to care.

Help me out, guys ... I'm in a really dark place today. :cry: Give me something ... any glimmer of hope is better than nothing.

About ready to let my newspaper subscription lapse ( joining the other 79% of Americans - including Bush - who don't read papers ). Our " supposedly " more liberal Seattle PI daily had NO mention of yesterday's Conyers hearing. Naturally it's much more important to know whether Scott Peterson will get the Death Penalty. Speaking of Divine punishment ... what are 100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths worth ?
