First half of the article I think is BIG (except for title and Faux ref :-))... Second half I don't care for that much...

Zogby Polling Seeks Damage Control After Election Day Flub
By Marc Morano
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
December 09, 2004

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Following an Election Day prediction that Democratic candidate John Kerry would win more than 300 electoral votes and the presidency, one of America's most well known polling firms continued the job Wednesday of explaining its flawed projection.

Shawnta Watson Walcott, communications director for Zogby International, joined a group of liberal Democrats at a faux congressional hearing focused on whether fraud influenced the Nov. 2 outcome.

"... it has become increasingly clear that this election has produced unprecedented levels of suspicion regarding its outcome, and we join this panel discussion in an attempt to find a resolution to these issues," said Walcott, who represented the firm's president and long time political pollster John Zogby at the forum sponsored by Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee.

....

Walcott told the group assembled that Zogby International had questions of its own pertaining to the election.

"We have received thousands of letters and phone calls regarding irregularities - many of which center on early exit polling results that were uncharacteristically inaccurate in several battleground states; questionable practices at polling stations that may have resulted in votes not being counted accurately; and in Ohio, as with other swing states, the automated Diebolt machines were particularly disturbing because they offered no voting receipts" she said.

"It is with this intention that we recommend that a blue ribbon bipartisan panel be developed to investigate the allegations discussed here today ..." Walcott added.

Agree
However I think it does show something, having Zogby step up and make this kind of statment...

17. Hope that it does
I'm a Republican, but also (and more importantly) an American. I'm here on DU specifically because this needs to be non-partisan if it's going to get anywhere. Not just bi-partisan, we need to make sure the Greens and Libertarians are on board as well. But most of all, if the demand for honest elections always comes only from the losing party, it can be dismissed every time as sour grapes and the complainers told "to get over it."

Until there's no point holding elections at all, and we live in a totalitarian police state that just tells "we the people" to get over it.

I don't care who win at this point, so long as they win fair and square, and in broad daylight so everyone can see that they won fair and square. If you love your country, you should be demanding the same thing. This isn't about getting Kerry into office so much as getting the scoundrels and their minions out.

7. I've believed the whole time
that since Zogby had his own exit polls and he saw problems, then it is up to him to help get this out there. He needs to be more forceful about it.

Mistofsky having bad exit polls and explaining it away is one thing. Zogby ALSO having bad polls is very much another thing. I'm just waiting for Zogby to say something. I'm also waiting for Putin to make a statement about our fixed election in retaliation for our involvement in the Ukranian election.

9. Blue Ribbon Commission is needed
I would hope that there are Republicans that would support this, though I feel that won't happen.

First they ignore you... Then they laugh at you... Then they fight you... Then you win...

It's going to happen. This stolen election is just one battle in the overall war. We will prevail...

10. i know it has been asked a million times, but
i'm asking again.

how will a recount in ohio change anything if there are so many computerized voting machines without paper trails? or are these paperless machines not in ohio? thanks.

16. That's my point, too.
What needed to be done had to happen before the election, not after. We need to get rid of voting machines that can't be verified. This is sick. I think you're right; how can a recount change anything at this point?

18. The answer is:
70% of the votes in Ohio were cast on paper punch cards.

When the recount was finally done in Fla. 2000 paper punch cards, Gore was determined to be the winner.

So, recount the paper in Ohio, do as good of a job as possible looking over the DREs and let's see what the numbers are then.

Satisfied? Is your question finally answered?

22. will the recount be done by hand?
or are they just going to rerun the cards through the machines?

what about the other 30%

and finally, can you link me the information proving gore won with a recount? who did the recount?

24. The recount will be done
...as the law allows. But, there are many lawbreakers who will, and are, working to keep the recount from going forward.

The other 30% IIRC, are DREs. There needs to be a careful examination of those machines, yes?

Can I link you to the truth about Gore 2000? Sure. In fact I just saw a link a minute ago on this forum. What? Do you not know the truth about Fla. 2000?

29. Don't take my questions the wrong way
We all must be very thorough and repeat the facts we know over and over again.

If you think it is a pain, then you have no chance at getting the public behind you.

Are we talking about a newspaper recount in florida? If so, at least this recount in Ohio will have more validity to it. Still, the paperless votes stand out as a huge problem. For the record, I have contributed to this recount.

12. gandhi's statement in relation to blue ribbon commissions
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 10:33 AM by pgh_dem
it's a great quote, but in the last three well-known instances of blue-ribbon commissions, the Warren Commission, the House Select Committee on Assassinations and the 9/11 Commission, the pattern was more like: first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they create a blue ribbon panel, then they waste a lot of money on a whitewash, then they go right back to ignoring and laughing at you.
the only times i can think of where 'they fight you, then you win' were won by legislation (Civil Rights Act and the occasionally reluctant enforcement of it by the FBI and National Guard) and prosecution (Watergate, Judge Sirica and Archibald Cox).
Blue ribbon might as well be brown ribbon, if you get what I think they are useful for.
edit for clarity: i think arneback's on the right track, and maybe somebody should see if Independent Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's got some free time.

15. but it was great to see a Zogby person there yesterday
i was surprised, but this really adds weight to the case.

in the gandi saying:
"first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you and then you win"
this article shows we're at the "then they fight you" stage.

25. MISLEADING TITLE SUCKS n/t
Zogby was right on.
His final polls were right.
The Exit Polls were right.

The votes were tampered with.
Hacked touchscreens.
They voted Kerry; it came up Bush.

Hacked tabulations.
It's not who votes; it's who counts them.
