"Mass media" idea?
I had this inspiration from that scene in Fahrenheit 9/11 when Michael Moore drove around in the ice cream truck reading The Patriot Act and also from a guy I saw on ifilms.com who stands outside of concerts on a soapbox using a megaphone to tell people they have bad taste in music. We should all get megaphones. Then we can drive around and broadcast from our vehicles in busy intersections, parking lots, etc. This would be cheap and easy to do. We could also just pick street corners to stand on and broadcast our message.

What do you think?

1. I'd do it
But a lot of people wouldn't because they're too inhibited.

What about if we all put bumperstickers on our cars that say: Vote Fraud '04: (media choice here).

Media choice could be whatever you think will serve the interests of your area the best--could be Randi, could be DU, Keith, etc.

2. Unlike the Patriot Act, which everyone "knows really exists,"
much of the information regarding this most recent stolen election is not common knowledge, so the effort to storm the hood with information, could backfire. In other words, nobody doubted the existence of the Patriot Act, so the effort to "get specific" about the contents would not be viewed as a hoax or a bunch of crazy people with bullhorns (my fear in this case...)

So, the people--ie the intended audience of this effort-- need some kind of baseline knowledge, some basis for curiosity, some "entry level" info before they'd be likely to tilt their heads and "listen to the bullhorn.."

Florida 2000 is a good "baseline"/entry-level knowledge base...so, I'd say that any effective radical/unconventional strategy could start with the FACT of Election 2000...it could speak more specifically of the situation in 2000-- (How many people know that the vote in Florida was eventually counted, and there is zero question of who won??)

and build the case/the curiosity about 2004

Or, perhaps just some really simple "factual information" regarding the nature of the vote tabulators-- the computers that count our votes.

The argument wouldn't be "Kerry Won" it'd be...."Did you know this about our voting system? Are you aware of these facts?"

The campaign would then resemble Moore's ice cream truck-- ie, we all know that computers are involved in our voting proces...but few of us know the specifics.

This is better than my Florida idea, I think....

And yes, I think a very "factual," sober, straight-forward, campaign-- a "Here are the facts, Jack!" bullhorn strategy might then be effective!!

3. Great!

Then could we think of a "script" of some sort? Something that we could all use? I'd be happy to drive around and broadcast. I'm a big mouth so it's right up my alley. Plus I like the idea that it is mobile, fairly anomymous and can provide a quick "get away" if needed--you know, don't want to be stopped for disturbing the peace, etc.

How about something we know for sure? Such as BBV and the voter suppression information? The investigations at GAO and in Ohio?

4. Sober Bullhorn Script-- principles first

Principles:

1. Facts only

2. Facts only in simple, clear language. "trade secret," for example, would have to be translated into no-brainer language. "Conflict of interest" would similarly be explained. "paper trail," ditto.

3. Script would serve to address common misunderstandings.
ONe such misunderstanding is that the possible problem is only with "electronic voting machines"-- fact is, the computers that count ALL OF OUR VOTES are just as worrisome. So, difference between "voting machines" and "central tabulators" would have to be offered in simple, clear language.

4. Script should have a non-partisan feel. We're all Americans, we all care about real elections-- this is the assumption.

5. NO MENTION of "who really won!"

6. Perhaps the effort and the group sponsoring it could have a name

like OPERATION BULLHORN/CITIZEN INFORMATION GROUP. (OPCIG?)

7. Tone of operation/group-- We distribute information, We don't preach to convert, we don't harass, we don't assume we know more than the facts. The whole operation is about FACTS and the importance of an INFORMED CITIZENRY.

Perhaps the bullhorn is just part of the effort?

5. I think the bullhorn is crucial because
it gets people's attention and because you can broadcast to a lot of people at once. Plus it would be pretty hard for the media to ignore it, at least on a local level, if there were a lot of bullhorns suddenly on the streets. We could even stand outside of media offices and broadcast.

7. NO! backlash of hate from those who resent forced listening, ended sleep
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 09:44 AM by oscar111
every neighborhood, including "downtown" has nightworkers, and homeless, who must sleep in the day.

Wake people up, and i wouldnt blame them for detesting the loudspeakers.

{but i applaud your urge to get the word out.. and Carol, i remember some super posts you have done lately. I just demurr on this one post, dear friend. }

Also, think how you feel when someone interrupts your necessary thoughts,... planning things, and the like.. interrupts with something THEY want to force on you. Resentment. Backlash.

Persuasion must be polite, never bullying. Bullying loudspeaker noise will only be resented.

Consider your reaction when you are waiting at a busstop to go take a final exam, running over key points in your mind,

and a fundy gets on his loudspeaker across the street and preaches to your little crowd. You suddenly cannot run over key points in your mind. Seething anger boils up.

Has he converted you? Is to laugh.

Will this method convert anyone to the dems? Is to laugh. It will

MAKE ENEMIES.

Let's all try again and come up with more media ideas. I like the spirit of those who are trying.

PS the nightworkers whose sleep you will destroy, include ER doctors.. the surgeons who will operate on your heart after that horrid car wreck puts you in the ER. Puts you there after you destroyed his daytime sleep.. and he is groggy.. no sleep.. trying to cut and stitch your aorta, spurting blood. Scapel slips, cuts across the heart, you slip into shock, and breathing stops.
The ER nurse also lost a daytime sleep period. She nods off on her feet as your soul flys up.

PS What chance would a freeper on a bullhorn have.. of converting you? You also have no chance of converting them. Conversion takes many many facts over a long time.. AAR can do it.. Many Leaflets on a grocers bulletin board over a year, can do it.. a loaned book or CD can do it.. Gore's tv will do it.

But bullhorns are too brief. They will only annoy. Only create

BACKLASH OF ANGER.

BAD TACTICS DO EXIST:
a brief history:

--Blocking rush hour traffic
--Pouring glue into home mailboxes, the thin ones on doors {done by Suffragettes long ago}
--Candidates with street parties that block residents trying to drive home.
--This one, bullhorns blasting folks.

9. Innovative marketing techniques = guerilla marketing
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 09:49 AM by rosebud57
Guerilla marketing uses unconventional means of distributing a message.

Viral marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth in the message's exposure and influence. Viral marketing often comes about because of "buzz".

Before the election I was using guerilla marketing in my GOTV street canvassing. Some DUers did join me but it was not nearly enough to create media buzz. People of course were phone banking, canvassing and writing LTTES, all of which were very important before the election. Now that we have time on our hands and an army of hopefully willing participants, IMHO a brilliant way to take the next step and get the word out to those who do not frequent lefty web sites is:

What we can do right now is use poor man's advertising and free delivery systems, ie. DUers to spread the immediate message, that the election was fraudulent.

Right NOW we at DU CAN just like the mean girls in highschool start a whisper campaign against the chimp's reputation. How you ask? By using guerilla and viral marketing techniques. That means using unconventional means of delivering a message that creates buzz, ie viral marketing.

Do this:

download the file below and got to Kinkos and make copies.

BUSH CHEATED is color but can be printed and
photocopied B&W to save $$$. They print 2 to a sheet, so you will have to cut them.

download this and other files here:

http://somnamblst.tripod.com /

Use the BUSH CHEATED to flyer cars or even BETTER...

Buy a can of 3M Super 77 spray adhesive from staples and glue the BUSH CHEATED graphic to metal utility poles, bus stop shelters, advertising benchs, newspaper racks etc. let your inner anarchist express itself. If enough people do this then the masses will become aware AND just like highschool Bush's reputation will be ruined.

This is something we can do RIGHT NOW. No dreaming just ACTION. I've started. I challenge everyone on DU to commit to disseminating at least 10 per day.

I had hoped to plaster Columbus at the rally yesterday with both BUSH CHEATED & Blackwell RECUSE, but the wind was so bad it would have been impossible. I did however do some bus stop shelters and utility poles near campus yesterday and the day before and none of my handiwork has been peeled off.
