October 30th 1995, 1.42% made a big difference for everyone in Canada. Much more so for nationalists in Québec.

What did you do that evening?

1. Yep
Had the radio and tv going at the same time.

It was surreal.

2. I voted Yes and No.
I was torn. I did not feel confortable enough with what was offered on either side.

I watched it with my SO (now Ex) He is an anglo from the Prairies.
We had agreed to watch it half and half. CBC and Radio-Canada. We changed it every half hour. Talk about surreal.

When the results were official we both cried. He from relief and me from grief.

I felt the pain of my "compatriotes". My heart was with all of them. It was like if my family had been betrayed, cheated.

What would I vote today? I still don't know.

5. Many of those who voted "oui" thought they would still be Canadian
citizens, because of the unclear (phony) way the question was asked...According to polls taken later...

4. I was supposed to drive back to school that night...
...but couldn't tear myself away from my in-law's tv.

I was in Montreal for the Pro-Canada rally. I helped carry the giant flag that was being passed around and I had thought we turned the corner that day.

I don't think I was ever so scared for my country as I was that night.

6. Because of the "Clarity bill" which has been passed by parliament
the separatists will not be able to fool people into voting yes again who don't want to leave Canada....The polls later showed that many of those voting "oui" thought they would still be Canadian citizens, due to the phony question....

7. Do you know the exact wording?
I don't remember, I would be curious to see it. In English or French, whichever was used in the polls.
