"It's time for a new person to lead the province," Campbell said during a brief news conference in Vancouver.
"When public debate becomes focused on one person, as opposed to what's in the best interests of the province of British Columbia, we've lost sight of what's important. When that happens, it's time for a change," he added.
Campbell said he has asked the party to hold a leadership race as soon as possible.

No argument here, he's been a dead man walking for months. I think the Liberal caucus was about to make him walk the plank, so he jumped instead. Will be interesting to see what this does to the party in the polls, and the impact on the HST debate/referendum.
