Slain soldiers, journalist return home from Afghanistan
The remains of four Canadian soldiers and those of a Calgary-based reporter have returned to Canada.

A military transport plane carrying the caskets of Sgt. George Miok, 28; Cpl. Zachery McCormack, 21; Sgt. Kirk Taylor, 28; Pte. Garrett Chidley, 21; and Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang, 34, touched down at CFB Trenton, Ont. on Sunday afternoon.

My heart aches for the families of these people. So sad.

1. Peacekeepers' Day.
Peacekeepers' Day in Canada falls on 9 August, specifically to commemorate the deaths of nine Canadian UN peacekeepers whose aircraft was shot down over Lebanon on that date in 1974, it also more contemporaneously remembers the 110 peacekeepers killed so far in far-flung places where the United Nations has intervened to save lives.
