Ahmadinejad's 'repugnant' remarks behind boycott: PM
Quoth the Ceeb:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's "absolutely repugnant remarks" about the Holocaust are reason enough for Canadian officials to boycott the Iranian president's address to the UN General Assembly.

"There are times when things are being said in this world that it is important that countries that have a moral compass stand up, make their views known," Harper said Wednesday in Oakville, Ont.

"And our absence there will speak volumes about how Canada feels about the declarations of President Ahmadinejad."

Even though it's Harper saying this - I try to avoid CBC's comment section but I had to laugh at KamBoy's below the article - I can't say I'm particularly offended by the boycott itself. Broken clocks, etc.

I'm wondering which other countries are going to walk out on the address?

1. Germany planned to lead an exit
by other countries if Ahmadinejad spoke about the Holocaust. Harper is just trying to steal Germany's thunder on this.

Election publicity and all, you know.

2. Here's a snip from the Globe and Mail version
"The Prime Minister delivered his condemnation of the Iranian President at the Oakville, Ont., offices of Tim Hortons, where he thanked the company for moving its corporate headquarters back to Canada."

Nothing says outrage over genocide quite like a visit to a donut store.

4. Oxygen atoms kind of look like donuts
The chemical symbol for oxygen is the same shape as a donut. Coincidence...?

7. I believe Iraq did this shortly before they were attacked
I hope we won't see a replay. The Iraq invasion didn't work out well for anyone (except arms providers and military contractors).
