Canadian soldier killed just weeks into first tour
Updated Tue. Apr. 14 2009 2:02 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

A young soldier only two weeks into her first tour of duty in Afghanistan was killed when the armoured vehicle she was travelling in rolled over an improvised explosive device.

Trooper Karine Blais was killed and four others were wounded by the blast, which occurred Monday afternoon in the Shah Wali Khot district, north of Kandahar city.

Blais, 21, is only the second Canadian female to die in combat since the Afghan mission began.

I've had enough of our kids dying for someone else's war. We went into it with good intentions ..... Bush decided to transfer troops and resources into invading an unrelated nation instead, his intentions were obvious. Afghanistan mattered very little compared to opening up Iraq's oil and spreading empire. The Afghanistan gov't didn't bomb on 9/11, nor did it's citizens being air-bombed and called just more collateral damage. 15 of the bombers were Saudi nationals. Imo Afghanistan is more about a pipeline than anything else ..... and our kids are dying for it. I'm just fucking sick of it. Pardon my French.

3. She died to stop the Taleban from abusing women
Problem was, the Afghanistan government we are supporting is fundamentally no different (e.g. supporting spousal rape).

4. The CIA was giving warlords Viagra.
These warlords have wives as young as 8 years old. No, she didn't die protecting womens rights in Afghanistan, imo.

5. I agree, she didn't die for women's rights in Afghanistan
The mission was sold to Canadians on that basis, but the reality is very different.
