Tories move to raise age of consent
The federal government tabled legislation Thursday raising Canada's age of consent for the first time in more than a century, saying it wants to prevent adults from preying sexually on young people without criminalizing teen romances.
The change, if passed, will increase the age at which a Canadian can legally have sex to 16 from 14.
The law was last revised in 1890, when the age of consent was raised from 12.

The Conservatives had promised to introduce legislation increasing the age of consent since taking office in February.
The move has been hailed by police and child advocacy groups as a means of helping prevent adults from preying on children particularly in the age of the Internet.
GlobeYeah...one of the big issues facing Canada today :eyes:
PROS: every other country does it without any problem
CONS: ain't broke (and no evidence that it is, if you notice), so no need to fix it
