Please don't blame me for feeling a little bit sorry for Environment Minister Rona Ambrose. She has the worst job in the cabinet. I know because I was there once.
The environment minister is never green enough for the greens and if you are half-way environmental, you get crucified by the business lobby. Not only do you get the usual backlash from the private sector, the anti-environment bias is reinforced by the departments of finance, industry, transport, agriculture and most of all by natural resources.
Pity the poor minister who has to convince her colleagues that the Kyoto action plan is worth pursuing. Couple that with Ambrose's Alberta-based constituency in Edmonton and you have a recipe for environmental trouble.
And trouble is just where Prime Minister Stephen Harper is heading if he joins Australia and the U.S. in killing Kyoto.
It makes no sense to follow George W. Bush in the twilight of a career where he'll be remembered as the president who botched what Daddy didn't finish.
