Pharmacist Refusal Rally from Planned Parenthood...
Edited on Fri May-06-05 04:06 PM by ClassWarrior
VIA EMAIL:

It's happened in Texas. It's happened in Illinois. It's happened in Wisconsin.

Another pharmacist has refused to fill a prescription for emergency contraception - this time in Milwaukee.

Join Planned Parenthood as we demonstrate in support of access to birth control and emergency contraception - right in front of the pharmacy where it's being refused.

What: A rally to demonstrate support for access to birth control!
When: Tuesday, May 10 from 12noon - 1:00 pm
Where: Walgreens on the corner of Good Hope and Teutonia
RSVP to Attend the Rally!

We're fighting back...and you can too. It's been said that if you speak up, they will listen. Well, it's true...and we're about to speak up again. Planned Parenthood is organizing a lunchtime rally around pharmacists refusing to fill birth control prescriptions.

Anti-birth control hardliners at the Capitol are attacking women's access to basic health care and have introduced legislation that would make it legal for pharmacists to refuse to fill your prescription.

That's why we need your help! We need to show that the majority of Wisconsinites want pharmacies to meet women's basic health care needs by filling prescriptions for birth control without delay or discrimination. Join us as we rally against pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception, like what happened recently at a Milwaukee Walgreens. Please bring a friend and pass this message on to others!

1. This pisses me off, and I'm a guy
Very few issues get my blood boiling. Not alledged voter fraud, not the bankrupcy bill, etc. Refer to my inaugural post on DU:

#1: Resist and defeat the Christian Taliban.

13. thanks
it's a general check-up with her GP. We have lots of questions about her hospitalization and what the test results were (they were told absolutely nothing while she was in there a few weeks ago - :grr:).

Let's just say I have *lots* of questions.

5. ummm
would that be May 10? I may have to work out some schedule conflicts, but this approach to medical care can NOT be be allowed to continue. Not in Wisconsin, not in my country. I call bullshit.

OATH OF A PHARMACIST

At this time, I vow to devote my professional life to the service of all humankind through the profession of pharmacy.

I will consider the welfare of humanity and relief of human suffering my primary concerns.

I will apply my knowledge, experience, and skills to the best of my ability to assure optimal drug therapy outcomes for the patients I serve.

I will keep abreast of developments and maintain professional competency in my profession of pharmacy.

I will embrace and advocate change in the professional of pharmacy that improves patient care.

I take these vows voluntarily with the full realization of responsiblity with which I am entrusted by the public.

11. Unfortunately, in many states, including California,
there are so-called 'conscience laws' that apply to the individual pharmacist, not the pharmacy. The pharmacy, the employer, may not compel the individual employee-pharmacist to issue medication that is so repulsive to his conscience that he blows his mind (or whatever).

Interesting - I think it happens across all pharmacies, because I quit Wal-Mart, for so many reason, but one of which was that it has a CORPORATE-WIDE policy not to carry emergency contraception.

I went to my local Walgreens, asked the head pharmacist, and he stated that they would gladly fill all prescriptions for both emergency contraception and birth control.

Some religious extremists believe that birth control, because it may interfere with implantation, amounts to ABORTION (yes, they are that crazy).

By the way, I'm 46, and my husband always gets a kick when I go up to the counter and loudly ask for my birth control pills (I have to take them for medical reasons - cyst prevention). I used to like to irk the local Wal-Mart employee by doing that (my husband had erroneously dropped the script off there and it took me forever to get it transferred).

9. Going to be gone that day
Darn it - wouold be there with lots of like minded friends who, unfortunately, are going on the same trip as I. So glad to see some action of this sort in Milwaukee. Used to get angry that my donations just seemed to generate more mailings that exceeded my domation - now glad they are actually DOING something.

12. Are they cheerfully fulfilling prescriptions for Viagra?
A talented cheesehead could surely make a sign showing the shameful juxtaposition. And how hard is it to reveal christian conservative hypocrisy? Warmest regards from the South. I hope you all kick some serious ass next week.
