Why would the afl cio be interested in a mayoral race in podunk wi?I just thought it was kinda curious that they are expending resources on a local race.Any ideas?

4. That could be part of it. Getting Local is a good thing for Labor.
And going after Walmart is the smartest thing Labor has done in a long time.

3. Politically, I'm a bit of a newbie, but I've got a couple of ideas
Sometimes, mayors are pivotal in bringing new business to town. Perhaps they are expecting him to recruit businesses whose employees would be union labor or to somehow promote unions in the city.

It might be in an effort to help put in power someone who would be unfriendly to anti-union companies like Walmart.

Perhaps the candidate is a current or former union member.

Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. But the mayoral race doesn't seem too out there for a union to lend support, imo.
