I must confess that the only time I venture in Illinois is when I am passing through en-route to someplace more interesting.

We drove From Chicago to LA on what's left of old 66. Their signage was so accurate that one wouldn't need a map to follow the remaining pieces of The Mother Road. However, the experience of driving through Southern Illinois helped me to understand why folks thought that we needed an interstate system in the first place.

Besides...in all of the 66 mythology, does anyone recall any stories about the legendary trip from California to Illinois?
