1. ewagner, Gov Ahnolds of CA is trying for TABOR in CA too
This is what Colorado did in 1992 btw. Today they're voting in Dems in CO. TABOR requires a decent originating starting budget that is equitable to begin with. From there pop growth and inflation are the 'growth' factors, making it pretty much a per capita growth/inflation autopilot.

What is wrong with this picture is that globalized multinational corps aren't paying their fair share, along with the richest 1 and 1/2 % of taxpayers, the super-rich. "Perfectly Legal" by David Cay Johnston points this out. They can hide their money, Joe Sixpack on payroll (reported to IRS) cannot. Over time, that adds even more to the multinational's stock price and profits, at the expense of the communities and states they operate in.

Warren Buffett knows this too.

2. Link broken?
It came up to a search page for me.

Is that link supposed to go to the article in the Central Wisconsin Sunday paper. I thought that article was exceedingly biased for TABOR, but I was glad to see your meeting get that kind of press.

5. Repig Honadel goes beserk on TABOR opponents
from his press release at http://www.thewheelerreport.com

“The Democrats and Al Foeckler just don’t get. Taxpayers in Oak Creek & South Milwaukee have had enough of rising property taxes and smoke and mirror excuses. My property tax freeze, AB 58, actually holds the line on taxes.

It freezes the levy for municipalities at 2004 levels plus new construction.

It freezes the levy for schools at 2004 levels, and authorizes the Joint Finance Committee to appropriate state funding through the budget to make sure our schools remain one of the best systems in the Nation.

The Governor’s plan, on the other hand, raids every fund he could find. He steals from Peter to pay Paul, finances our future to solve the current budget crisis, has proposed over one billion dollars of new government spending and creates an even greater structural deficit for our future.

The Governor and the Democrats talk about a responsible freeze; well, my plan is it. AB58 actually freezes taxes without backdoor tax hikes, without long term bonding, without raiding vital funds and without a guaranteed property tax hike in 2 years. My freeze does what’s right for the taxpayers of Oak Creek and South Milwaukee.

My family has lived in Oak Creek for over 150 years. I was born and raised here, and I know the burden high taxes place on our families. My 11-year-old daughter Sara currently attends South Milwaukee pubic schools, and I know that she receives a great education.

I will continue working hard in the legislature to protect property taxpayers and at the same time maintain the high quality of our public schools.”

He sounds as delusional as Scott Suder in that Central Wisconsin Sunday piece. Someone has fed them some phony baloney poll numbers and they think if they keep howling about how the people want this, people will just see the light.

I'm putting your TABOR forum on my calendar. Hope to see you there.

TABOR debate heats up
By Beth Burger
For Central Wisconsin Sunday

Marv Meier isn't sure he understands TABOR, but he knows his property taxes keep increasing. Wisconsin ranks sixth in the nation in tax burden at a state and local level, according to the Washington D.C.-based Tax Foundation, described in its Web site as a nonpartisan educational organization.

"The idea of a (spending) cap makes sense to some degree," said Meier, 68, of Rib Mountain.

Supporters of TABOR, or the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, say a constitutional amendment limiting local and state government spending is the answer. Opponents think otherwise.

Both sides are waging a battle for public opinion with forums to inform people about the effects of TABOR.
