Went to Obey presentation on Stimulus Bill today
It was at the UW-Marathon County Campus. He gave a good presentation. Toward the end some nut job complained to him about the "conflict of interest" of his son being on a conservation group that supports funding for the National Parks. Obey pointed out that his son gained in no way from the money going to the NPS (although he didn't put it that nicely). :-) Won't you know it this is the part of the presentation they are airing on WSAU (local gas bag radio in Wausau).

1. I went to one today, but couldn't get in
Was told Obey wanted a smaller, more cozy room instead of the nicely appointed and roomy lecture hall that was originally scheduled. That was a big mistake. Only about half the people who wanted to see him could get in to the damn room.

2. I saved a seat for you
The wood county chair and I were sitting together and we put coats over two seats.....

but you stood us up...

A Repub A-hole (from The Grind repub group) tried to embarrass Dave...didn't work...we ran into him after and he accused me of "bowing" to Obey. He said the stimulus was wrong, wrong, wrong and we are saddling our children with debt...I told him if he has a better solution I'll back him 100%...and btw TAX CUTS ARE NOT THE SOLUTION.

4. Hi Broca!
The "mantra" I'm getting from them is floats to a number of themes:

1. Those damn Democrats made Bush spend the money...
2. We're at WAR DAMMIT!
3. It's SOCIALISM....(and btw Obama a MUSLIM )
4. We're wasting money on people who don't DESERVE it
5. Democrats are protecting gays, welfare queens, and lazy people who "aren't white".

We're dealing with a pathology here that is truly frightening.....

5. Tax cuts to people who don't pay taxes...
That's the line I keep hearing.

Aside from the fact that refundable tax credits go back decades in American tax law (i.e., they weren't invented by the Socialist Obama Administration), there's also the point that even people who get these credits are also paying Social Security, Medicare, state, and local taxes.

But you can't explain that to these people. It's like trying to explain particle physics to an orangutan.

And my apologies to members of the Orangutan-American Community.
