Physician charged in fatal crash
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinal online

Waukesha - A former physician charged Monday with homicide in the deaths of a pregnant school administrator and her daughter in a traffic crash has a history of drug and alcohol convictions and was under the influence of three drugs when his SUV slammed into the woman's stopped car, according to court records.

Mark M. Benson, 55, enters a Waukesha County courtroom Monday where he was charged in the deaths of a pregnant school administrator and her daughter. Bail for Benson, who has a history of substance abuse, was set at $1 million.

In setting the $1 million bail, Waukesha County Circuit Court Commissioner Martin Binn called Benson a "a danger to our community" and said Benson was not supposed to be driving at all, having had his driver's license revoked Wednesday after he was convicted of operating while intoxicated

Typical republican (check his political contributions) physician behavior. Drunk, on drugs, driving an obscene SUV, history of this kind of behavior.

They really do think that rules and laws do not apply to them.

1. Get this guy out of society ------>
"According the criminal complaint filed in the case, Benson was under the influence of oxycodone, a pain killer; Ambien, a sleep aid; and Xanax, used to treat anxiety. He had consumed one oxycodone tablet and four or five each of Ambien and Xanax on Friday morning, the complaint states.

At the time of the crash, Benson told authorities, he was going to a pharmacy to pick up six Cialis and six Viagra pills, the complaint says.

Benson's Cadillac Escalade was traveling about 50 mph, and his vehicle did not brake within eight seconds before the crash, according to data from the vehicle's air bag module, the complaint says.

Benson also told authorities he was using his hands-free cell phone attachment to call the pharmacy and that he was "99% sure that just before the accident he was trying to call (the pharmacy) to check on his prescription, though he did not think the call had gone through at the time of impact," investigators wrote in the complaint."

6. Check out the rest of the story on Milwaukee Journal.com
he had his medical license revoked several years ago.

He was ordered to undergo addiction treatment by the state medical board in the mid to late 90's.

He had just been found guilty of driving without a license on wednesday and was due to report for 75 days of incarceration in early may.

And Lee (shit for brains)Dreyfus Jr let this POS back on the streets!

Result a little girl dead, a 39 (I believe) women dead, her baby dead, and 2 others injured.

All because this piece of human excrement was allowed behind the wheel time and time again when he should have been locked up for a very long period of time a very long time ago.:argh:

:grr:

8. we have sad
laws here dealing with drunk driving. my uncle got pretty easy work release, but HE GOT THE MESSAGE. we have 7th time offenders!
and an escalade! he should get life in prison. take his $ away. on the bright side. 3 drivers boxed in a drunk driver and got him to stop before the cops could get to them.

7. They let students out of class to attend his trial

I am not a death penalty advocate, but if ever there was someone more deserving it would be this guy.

9. How do these people get cars?
I can't even count how many times a DUI has killed somebody while driving on a suspended/revoked license.

Here's my suggestion. Drive a car under a suspended/revoked license, and your car will be impounded and sold at a sherrif's auction -- that's for the first offense. Second offense is the car is sold and you spend six months in jail.

What good does it do to suspend somebody's license if they're going to drive anyway?

10. Great idea!
They're having a special on Channel 4 following these people out of the courtroom when they get sentenced and seeing them get into cars to drive home, when they've just been sentenced and agreed not to drive. :eyes:

11. I think one of the local stations did that last year...
Actually showed the guy walking out of the courthouse (with his license revoked) and driving off in a car.

You don't have a constitutional right to drive an automobile. I say we should nail these people.

Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 07:04 PM by PeaceNikki
His ex-wife is a close friend of hers! His problems are deep-seeded. AND he has 6 or 7 kids! :o

It's notable that he lost his rights to practice medicine a while ago due to his drug habit.
