Milwaukee area radio listeners...
I got so fed up with Dave & Carol, and their buddies on WKLH bashing Kerry and Clinton, I changed FM stations.

I now listen to WRIT for oldies.

Sure they play the "hits to make you sick" at time, but they have less repetition and Dave and Carol and their cronies can get screwed!

1. I hate Milwaukee radio
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:24 AM by RatTerrier
Though I have been getting into WUWM (89.7) lately. NPR shows all day, and great music on the World Cafe at night. WPR on 90.7 is decent too. And don't forget 91.7 (WMSE), which is a traditional college station where they spin music the way it's supposed to be played - off CD's, as opposed to compressed MP2 files off hard drives like the commercial stations.

Also like WYMS (88.9). It's all real jazz, with no commercials and few interruptions (they're in the process of turning it over to another group, and MPS doesn't really run it anymore). Eventually, this new group will put on a World Cafe-style (or 'triple A') format, but we'll see.

But if you like wacky morning shows, you could always listen to Tom Joyner on 98.3. At least we know he's a lefty! Or Bob and Tom on 102.1, who rarely talk politics, but are heavy into crude sex jokes.

Stay away from Bob and Brian on Lazer. They're hardcore wingnuts.

2. Could we ask "The Ideas Network" to get Franken?
Since there's no outlet in WI, this would at least offer a differing opinion from WI's vast radio wasteland.

4. Another idea
1690 in Chicago has been rumored to be switching to AAR in recent months. The daytime signal is very staticy, though. If they do switch, learn to love static. I listened to 950 this way when AAR was there.

5. Yeah, but I live in Algoma (think GreenBay:east)
A Chicago signal won't reach here.

I occasionally tune in WTMJ. But after yesterday, I turned it off and walked away in tears. Hate has come to my beloved Wisconsin.

Does anyone remember when they had a great line-up of Kathleen Dunn, Gus Ganorski (sp?), and Jonathan Green to lighten things up? The last time I heard JG, he was kissing Republican butt. I thought, Oh, no, not you, too...but then I realized he probably wants to keep his job.

I hear Kathleen Dunn on WPR occasionally.

9. Do you get WGN up there?
Big talk station out of Chicago. Not very political. Huge signal.

1290 in Milwaukee is mostly black talk, some liberal voices there.

Otherwise, do you like sports talk?

Option #2: Sirius.

15. You're right about WGN.
Grew up in Wisconsin, but have listened to them since I was in the 5th grade (I'm 49 now!). A high class station with NICE on-air people. And Extension 720 at 9:00PM with Prof. Milt Rosenberg is the most intelligent call-in show on radio (IMHO).

16. Only on a very clear day.
I'll check 1290. I could use some encouragement!

10. AAR now on in Madison
I think it's WXXM 92.1 FM, but I doubt Milwaukee can get it.

13. That's a pretty weak signal
I used to try to tune them in when they played modern rock as WMAD. That was a pretty good station.

Here's all the technical mumbo-jumbo:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=wxxm&is_unl=Y&is_lic=Y&is_cp=Y&sr=Y&s=C&sid=

They crank out 1750 watts currently, but it looks like they applied for a boost to 3700:

Current signal:

Signal with future upgrade:

You might have better luck with WTDY (1670), which is also going liberal talk with Ed Schultz. Their signal carries a bit further during the day, and can be picked up as far as Milwaukee:

Daytime signal (10,000 watts)

Nighttime signal (1,000 watts)

3. Let them know how you feel
I got fed up with Lazer and their bozos. The only way this will end is if enough people complain.

6. I used to listen to Laser
but I think I stopped listening around the impeachment. It would seem to me a comedy morning show would do better being apolitical. but I'm sure the consultants think otherwise

Now I have Sirius so I listen to Air America. :bounce:

7. All the more reason we should get a group together to buy a station.
Then program AAR. I may be nuts, but I really think a small group of dedicated Milwaukeeans could put this together - and I want to be a part of it.

8. Got a couple million dollars?
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 05:29 PM by RatTerrier
That's how much it would cost. Not to mention all the expenses.

Milwaukee is relatively under-radioed on the AM side. Unless 1340 decided it could make more money than religious programming, or one of the smaller players (see my post on the Milwaukee radio thread) falls on hard times, then it ain't happening.

Though I do hear that someone applied for the 1370 frequency in Sussex. This would be a low-power AM signal that goes off at sunset. And it would likely be at least a year or two before anything happens with it.

So, if your looking for AAR in Milwaukee, don't hold your breath.

11. Milwaukee radio AM is dominated by WISN-radio. (1120 AM)
Which is dominated to the max by Belling the Bigot.

When ACT-UP threw Belling a salad at one of his college appearances, I yelled and clapped in appreciation. :yourock:

Here in Sheboygan we have WHBL-AM that has Hannity and Savage. :argh:

12. WTMJ actually has higher ratings
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 08:30 AM by RatTerrier
And Charlie Sucks Sykes is even worse than Belling.

BTW: WISN is on 1130. Not to give them any more advertising...

14. I used to see Sykes on TV
When Mark Belling had that talk show on channel 12 Sunday mornings.

Belling even looks like the smarmy POS he is.

But Sykes kept knocking his teeth out with his knee-jerk defenses of anything and anybody conservative.

17. Yup. He's the one whose hate brought my tears.
He's the kind of guy who makes it impossible for me to have a decent conversation with any conservative.

WWJD, indeed!
