I'm thinking about running for alder-person in Wausau
I just can't decide if it's worth the hassle. I live in the only ward that voted for bush and I'm a card carrying democrat, war protesting, pro-choice, atheist, stay at home mom and disabled former state employee in a red neck ward. None of that is related to city govt but does that make a difference. The guy I'd being running against is a nice guy but ineffectual - he does what he's told and I've never seen him have an actual opinion.

I have to decide soon as nomination papers are due Jan 5th.

1. IMHO . . .
I say why not try? If you know this guy is ineffectual, chances are, everyone else knows too. City government is different. Constituents on this level only want what's best for their city.
Just my opinion mind you.

2. Just promise to
have the trash picked up and the roads plowed. That's all that most expect from their alderperson. Ideology is a moot point.

3. Sounds like you would be a definite improvement.
I don't live in Wausau, but I was a little sick of Jim Rosenburg promoting his corporation's interest using city council stationary and his position on the council . His antics on the Marathons county board were just as questionable.

On the other hand I believe he supported Feingold for re-election.

Here's a question people might ask you:

How would you have voted on the casino in Wausau issue?

4. Part of my message didn't post (trying again)
I have removed parentheses, brackets, etc. That may have been the problem.

he send letters to county board members on city letterhead supporting the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation's Arrowhead-Weston transmission line. WPS is his employer.

5. You should definitely run
The more progressives we can get into the local government, the better.

I always thought about running in the "one less" theory. That is, if I hold the seat, there is one less wingnut holding public office.

Give it a try.

10. It's official, I turned in my papers!!
They are checking my signatures to see if they all live in the district, which I know they do as I checked against the map. As long as 20 of my 28 signatures check out I'm on the ballot.
