Gambling bill has powerful support

Powerful interests and lawmakers are lining up behind a bill to legalize table games at West Virginia four racetracks.

The bill was introduced Thursday, on the same day about 150 racetrack employees and supporters rallied at the state Cultural Center. It would allow voters in the four counties with racetracks — Kanawha, Ohio, Hancock, and Jefferson — to approve or reject table games.

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones challenged gambling opponents to come up with another way to increase employment in West Virginia. He estimated each of the four counties with racetracks would gain 500 well-paying jobs with benefits.

better than Wal-Mart any day of the week and as for the criticism that this will lead to more gambling addicts--why don't the opposing groups try to get rid of the lottery, maybe block WVians from using on line gambling services, shut down the horse and dog tracks, etc

I can go to any public library and sit and gamble to my heart's desire so why shouldn't the state get a cut of it

2. WV is the most corrupt state in the nation
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 01:40 PM by thatgemguy
The WV government is controlled by gambling and special interests. The regular people there have no chance for meaningful change.

People there vote for the same political hacks, from the same families.

Congressman Alan Mollahan, inherited his seat from his father, and hasn't done anything for the state.

Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito, learned a lot from her corrupt daddy, the former governor and felon.

The Manchin family has committed mass murder on WV's future, to enrich themselves.

West Virginia ranks near the bottom in nearly everything.

Look in the mirror West Virginians, you have yourselves to blame.

5. Thanks for your wise words & sound advice ....
You really, truly have enlightened me today. :eyes:

The West Virginians on this board are not to blame. We support forward progression & social acceptance. Spewing your hateful words here does nothing.
