RAVENSWOOD - Century Aluminum of West Virginia is closing its Ravenswood smelter and laying off nearly all of its remaining 650 workers by Feb. 20, the company said Wednesday.

Century cited slumping aluminum prices and high energy costs for the shutdown.

"We deeply regret the impact of this action on our local employees and on the surrounding community," said Jim Chapman, the plant's manager. "The Ravenswood smelter has been an integral part of Western West Virginia's economy and culture for over 50 years. This action, while unfortunate, was not taken lightly." MORE...

Jackson county was sooooo proud to have King George come to Ripley a few years back on the fourth of July to celebrate along with Shellie Capito. Now I'll bet the folks in Jackson county are sorry they ever heard of George Bush or Shellie Capito...

1. I'd say those Jackson County republicans are blaming this on Obama.
They probably think the economy is suddenly crumbling because we didn't stay the course with McLame. After all, Obama's had almost a whole month to cause a depression. And then there's the familiar rightwing drivel about it all being the fault of Pelosi and Reid, while Junior was just an innocent bystander. The wingnut mind is not based on logic.

2. Bob Corker is going to be pissed when he finds out that...
those "greedy union Auto Workers" at Ford Chrysler and GM have caused Toyota to have to lay off still more of their employees around the country including here in rude red West Bye Gawd!

Meanwhile, the snake bitten American people are starting to see the truth, about the magnitude of the economic calamity that Bush/Wall Street and the de-regulating GOP have brought upon this country.
